Cartoons Like Music Too: My Favorite Cartoon-Related Music Videos
What kid doesn't love cartoons? Even today, at 19 years old, I'm more likely to turn on something like SpongeBob over some boring grown-up show. This love of cartoons got me thinking about how they connect to my first love (music, of course!), which is why I put together this list of fun videos.
1) A-ha - "Take On Me"
Let's keep ourselves in touch with the real world for this first one. A-ha's highly entertaining 1985 video for "Take On Me" doesn't technically feature cartoons, so what's it doing here, right? A woman gets sucked into a comic book! And interacts with people that have been drawn, as a drawing herself! From 1985! This video will always be cool.
2) The Used - "All That I've Got"
This video is another mixture of the cartoon world and real life. Suspense is created as we wait to see what will happen to the boy who gets mixed up with the Tim Burton-esque story character. Watch as your friendly neighborhood band The Used leads the whippersnapper to his destination.
Just a note- don't forget to check out The Used on Warped Tour this summer!
3) Mika - "Relax, Take It Easy"
Sigh, so you have to look at more regular people in a "cartoon" video, but at least it's the beautifully curly-headed Mika. Snatches of him are interwoven with some very pretty colors and artistic cartoon characters and objects. This song is from the album Life in Cartoon Motion, so yeah, it fits. Why don't you see for yourself and relax to some cartoon boats, pianos, and TVs?
4) Gorillaz - "Clint Eastwood"
Now we're talking full on animated, cartoonish world! Classic Gorillaz, as they all appear as their cartoon personas. If you need another reason to watch besides the fact that this is a pretty sweet song, well then: spooky graveyard, gorilla army, and some MJ style Thriller moves.
5) Fall Out Boy - "The Carpal Tunnel of Love"
Fall Out Boy and Happy Tree Friends seem to be made for each other. Somehow the song just fits well with the gruesome world these little critters live in. Plus, we get to see the members of Fall Out Boy turned into cute Happy Tree Friends! WARNING: If you don't like blood, guts, spines, gore, etc. then this may not be the video for you. In other words, it's violent. :)
That does it for my list of music videos that have crossed over into the land of cartoons. Now I want to know what your favorites are, so leave me comments!
