Say Goodbye! These Titles Are Leaving Netflix In December 2019
Every month, Netflix brings more shows and movies onto its platform. But it also kicks out a lot shows and films, too. While these might not matter to some people, others will mourn the loss of their favorite programs. After all, some of these aren't available anywhere else.
Popular films like Star Wars and award-winning documentaries like Planet Earth are scheduled to leave Netflix. Others have battled controversy, and their departure is long overdue. Here are all the titles--the good, the bad, and the unknown--that will leave Netflix in December 2019.
Star Trek: The Animated Series
Star Trek: The Animated Series will leave Netflix on December 1st, 2019. The show originally aired between 1973 and 1974, and its 22 episodes span two seasons. Fans of Star Trek likely know the series since it has garnered enthusiasm for decades.
The good news: the original 1960s Star Trek is still on Netflix. Three of the original Star Trek movies--Enterprise, Deep Space Nine, and The Next Generation--are still available. Fans will have no shortage of Star Trek to enjoy on the streaming site.
Hatfields & McCoys
The Western mini-series Hatfields & McCoys will no longer be on Netflix after December 1st. First produced by the History Channel in 2012, the three-part series covers the most infamous family feud in America. It was History's first aired scripted drama.
With each episode being almost two hours long, the mini-series is more like a couple of movies. However, it has received favorable reviews and awards since its release. You can still watch the show on Sony Crackle, but otherwise, you'd have to pay for it on YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Google Play.
Both Seasons Of Plant Earth
Sadly, seasons one and two of Planet Earth will leave Netflix on December 3rd. The first series came out in 2006 and was a massive success. Each of the eleven episodes shows one hour of a different habitat, narrated by David Attenborough.
The series' awards spawned a sequel, Planet Earth II, which took ten years to shoot. Both of these breathtaking documentary series will no longer be viewed on Netflix. The good news is that it's still on Amazon, Xbox, and iTunes. A third season, Planet Earth III, is scheduled to release in 2022.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
Christmas day will be the last time that you can watch Star Wars: The Last Jedi on Netflix. Although Star Wars fans have mixed opinions of the new series, there's no doubt that it has received some positive ratings since its release in 2018. Many other movies are also not on Netflix.
With the release of Disney+, many Star Wars movies are now leaving Netflix. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Solo: A Star Wars Story will still be available. But the main series will not be available on Netflix after December 26th, except for viewers in Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico.
Thor: Ragnorak
The sequel to Thor will be leaving Netflix on December 6th, 2019. Thor: Ragnarok has been available to stream on Netflix, but oddly enough, the original Thor movie has not been available there for years. If you want to see the hilarious Marvel movie, watch it before it disappears.
Netflix does not offer a lot of Marvel movies. Some of its selections include Ant-Man and the Wasp, Black Panther, Spider-Man 3, and Avengers: Infinity War. With the loss of Thor: Ragnarok, it seems that the entire Thor series will no longer be available on Netflix.
Frozen Planet
Another nature documentary series will vanish from Netflix. First released in 2011, Frozen Planet appeared on Netflix in July 2019 and is scheduled to leave after only five months. The team who made Frozen Planet also created The Blue Planet in 2001 and Planet Earth in 2006.
As the title implies, Frozen Planet explores the world's arctic habitats and how global warming affects these climates. Until December 1st, Netflix has been its only available streaming site. But don't fret; this award-winning show has a sequel scheduled for 2021 that may bring it back to Netflix.
The Making Of Frozen Planet
Since Frozen Planet is leaving Netflix, The Making of Frozen Planet is also scheduled to vanish. The latter is a 2012 series detailing the behind-the-scenes information on how the production team filmed the show.
Like the source material, The Making of Frozen Planet has six episodes, all ten minutes. If you haven't seen the original show, there's no need to learn about the making of the show. It makes sense that The Making of Frozen Planet is leaving Netflix as well.
The Paleo Way
Released in 2018, The Paleo Way follows chef Pete Evans as he explores the Paleo diet. Despite appearing on Netflix since its released, The Paleo Way has been argued over for a while. Viewers urged Netflix to remove the show after "Paleo Pete" spread some misinformation through his shows.
If the controversy hadn't happened, The Paleo Way wouldn't have received much attention anyway. Netflix never promoted the show on its Facebook or Twitter pages. But with the negative reviews, it's no surprise that Netflix will abandon The Paleo Way.
Africa
In 2013, BBC released a documentary series focusing on the African continent. Africa spans six episodes that are each an hour in length. In the United States, the show first aired on the Discovery Channel, where it received critical acclaim. As expected, the famous David Attenborough guides viewers through the journey.
Africa only has one season, and it will not likely receive a second. If you want to learn about the savannas, jungles, and deserts of Africa, watch the show before it leaves Netflix on December 3rd. It's not on other streaming services like Hulu.
Digimon Fusion
After five years of being on Netflix, Digimon Fusion will withdraw on December 1st. This kids' anime is the sixth TV series of the Digimon franchise. Despite being aimed at kids, the deeper themes earned the show positive reviews from adults and critics. On Netflix, viewers could watch in either English or Japanese (with English subtitles).
Although Digimon is leaving Netflix, the first two seasons are available to watch on Hulu. However, more recent seasons like Digimon Fusion are harder to find. The best streaming service to find Digimon is Crunchyroll.
Blue Planet II
The second season of Blue Planet will part ways with Netflix on December 3rd. Blue Planet II appeared on Netflix in 2018, one year after it aired. The first season is not on Netflix either, which may explain why this seven-episode series is scheduled to disappear.
David Attenborough narrates each hour-long episode with a music score by Hans Zimmer. Like the original series, Blue Planet II received critical acclaim and awards.
Breaking the Magician's Code: Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed
After three years of being on Netflix, Breaking the Magician's Code: Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed will finally leave. The 18-episode series explains how famous magicians create their illusions. The original show aired around 1998, but a new series came out ten years later.
Despite the show's positive reception, it only streams on Netflix. After December 1st, this will no longer be the case. Other shows about performance magic, such as Death by Magic and Magic for Humans, will remain on Netflix. But if you're a fan of Breaking the Magician's Code, watch it while you can.
Life (Documentary Series)
Life first entered Netflix in July 2019, but it aired ten years before then. This BBC documentary series observes the struggle of plants and animals. With hour-long episodes, Life first appeared on the Discovery Channel. You can still watch some of it on Discovery's website.
Life's ten episodes took four years to film. In 2011, footage from the show was adopted to create a documentary film, One Life. Although the show has won several awards, it seems to have lasted less than a year on Netflix.
Joseph Campbell And The Power Of Myth
Joseph Campbell's book The Power of Myth has forever changed the way that people view stories. Before the book released, many people tuned into the documentary, Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth. But this title will leave Netflix on December 1st, 2019.
The documentary series first released in 1988. It covers six episodes that are each an hour long. The show is not available on other popular streaming sites. While The Power of Myth has aired on some channels like PBS, you won't be able to access it easily after December.
My Little Lover
The Japanese TV drama, My Little Lover, will no longer be on Netflix after December 1st. Originally called Minami-kun no Koibito, the drama follows childhood friends who have drifted apart. They reconnect through an unusual circumstance: one of them shrinks to 15 cm tall.
My Little Lover, which is based on of a 1980s manga, aired in 1990, 1994, 2004, and 2015, all with different casts. The 2015 version appeared on Netflix in December 2016, and three years later, it will disappear. Soon, My Little Lover will only stream on Viki.
Life And Life On Location
David Attenburough returns in the BBC nature documentary mini-series, Life. Like many other nature shows in 2019, Life is also leaving Netflix. The eleven-episode show also features Oprah Winfrey as the narrator for the United States broadcast.
With the disappearance of Life, the show's behind-the-scenes series, Life on Location, will also leave Netflix. Both of these shows are only available on Amazon Prime and Vudu. If you're interested, make sure you don't mix up the nature show with the crime drama of the same name.
UFOs: The Best Evidence Ever (Caught On Tape)
If you're a fan of UFO footage, this entry will disappoint you. UFOs: The Best Evidence Ever (Caught on Tape) only streams on Netflix, although its two episodes are also available on YouTube (for now). The first episode released in 1997; the second, in 2000.
In the documentary series, UFO and NASA researchers analyze amateur videos of potential UFOs. Each episode is at least 45 minutes long. Although UFOs: The Best Evidence Ever is leaving, similar shows such as Unacknowledged and Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers will remain.
Nature's Great Events And Nature's Great Events: Diaries
Nature's Great Events is a wildlife documentary produced by BBC Natural History. After December 3rd Nature's Great Events will not have lasted a year on Netflix. Despite being popular when it aired, the series seems to pale when compared to more famous shows like Planet Earth.
Like Frozen Planet, the behind-the-scenes series, Nature's Great Events: Diaries, will also disappear. Both series have six episodes, but Diaries reduces the length from one hour to 11 minutes. Both shows are available on Amazon, Vudu, and iTunes, if you're willing to pay for them.
The Hunt
BBC's Planet Earth team seems to be taking a blow from Netflix. Yet another one of their shows, The Hunt, will no longer be streamed after December 3rd. Released in 2015, The Hunt explores the relationship between predator and prey. It also observes the ecosystems impacted by human interaction.
Seven hour-long episodes give the viewers plenty to watch. But unless you're want to spend $2 on YouTube, Google Play, Vudu, or Amazon Prime, you won't see The Hunt again. This will disappoint many fans who describe the show as "breathless" and "brilliant."
Fishtronaut
Fishtronaut is an animated children's series that follows a fish in a spacesuit. He is a secret agent who flies out of water to guide kids through mysteries. In 2011, show debuted on PBS Kids. Since then, Fishtronaut has expanded to Canada and Brazil, and it now airs on Qubo.
Throughout its two seasons, Fishtronaut has garnered praise for teaching kids to care for the environment. But after two years on Netflix, the show will be no more. Fortunately, Netflix has no lack of kids' shows, but Fishtronaut has never streamed anywhere else.
A.D. Kingdom And Empire
A.D. Kingdom and Empire, also called A.D. The Bible Continues, is a biblical drama show. As the sequal to the mini-series The Bible, it begins with the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. The Bible is not on Netflix, and A.D. Kingdom and Empire is scheduled to leave on December 15th.
NBC canceled A.D. Kingdom Empire after one season, although the creators are planning future biblical productions. Every episode is 46 minutes, and with 12 episodes, that's plenty to watch. The show has received mixed reviews over the years, so watch it now if you want to chip in your opinion.
Top 10 Secrets And Mysteries
The concept of Top 10 Secrets and Mysteries is neatly encapsulated in the title. The show lists mysteries such as cults and human sacrifices. The first season came out in 2017, and the second season released in 2019. However, it seems that both seasons will leave Netflix on December 14th.
Top 10 Secrets and Mysteries doesn't stream anywhere other than Netflix. If you want to watch it, now's the time. The show has received mixed reviews, and its popularity has declined with the rise of similar list channels on YouTube.
Merlin
Merlin is a British fantasy drama series released in 2008. The show is influenced by Arthurian legends, namely focusing on the wizard Merlin and his relationship with King Arthur. After years of being a mainstay on Netflix, Merlin will no longer be available after December 15th.

The Blue Planet: A Natural History of the Oceans
In 2001, the BBC nature documentary The Blue Planet: A Natural History of the Oceans debuted. The nine-episode series was sold in over 50 countries and won many awards. If you want to learn about marine life across the world, watch The Blue Planet before December 3rd, 2019.
Narrated by David Attenborough, the series covers everything from the Arctic to the deep sea to coastlines. Some creatures that have never been filmed before appear on the documentary. As a result, the show took five years to make, and cameramen visited over 200 filming locations.

Beyblade: Metal Fusion was popular enough in the U.S. to sell merchandize and a Nintendo Wii. If you missed it on Netflix, don't fret. The anime is available on Crunchyroll, Tubi, and YouTube TV. Most streaming services offer both the English dub and the Japanese version with English subtitles.
