‘Game of Thrones’ Wins Big At Its Final Emmy Awards

2019 marked the final year for Game of Thrones, and whether you were happy with the final season or not, the HBO series pleased enough to scoop up some Emmy awards this year. The show was nominated for a record-breaking 32 nominations for its final season.

An emotional video montage with footage from the show played before the cast entered the stage together to say a final goodbye and present the award for Supporting Actress In Limited Series Or Movie. Many of the cast, especially Gwendoline Christie, were visually emotional as the crowd gave them a standing ovation.

"As much as we wish the show could have gone on forever, our time had come. And tonight, is a chance to, once again, thank all of those who watched," said Masie Williams on stage.

The series won a total of 12 Emmys this year. Peter Dinklage won the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for a record-breaking fourth time for his role as Tyrion Lannister. Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke were both nominated for Lead Actor and Actress but did not come home with a win.

Game of Thrones finished their final Emmys by winning the biggest award of the night, Outstanding Drama Series. The cast and crew all went up on stage to accept the award to a standing ovation from the crowd. The series has won a total of 260 Emmys over its eight seasons and been nominated for more than 700. What a way to say goodbye to the iconic show.
