Billy Porter Made History At The 2019 Emmy Awards

Billy Porter had an emotional win at the 2019 Emmy Awards. He made history with the nomination and win for his role in the drama Pose.

Porter took home the award for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for Pose. He is the first openly gay black man to receive a nomination and win in this category. When he was asked about his nomination during the red carpet, he said he was "grateful" for the opportunities he's been given.

"All of my dreams are coming true right now," said Porter. "I'm grateful that I’ve lived long enough to see the day where I can stand inside of my authenticity and have it be perceived this way. It’s gorgeous and it’s a blessing."

He beat out fellow actors Jason Bateman, Sterling K. Brown, Kit Harington, Bob Odenkirk, and Milo Ventimiglia.

"We are the people that get to change the molecular structure of the hearts and minds of the people on this planet. Don't ever forget that," Porter said in his acceptance speech.
