Celebrities Who Have Surprising Part-Time Jobs
Everybody’s got a part-time job these days — it’s how we can afford the luxuries of having a roof over our heads and eating a decent meal that’s not 80-cent ramen noodles. But you might be surprised to know that even celebrities have moonlighted.
We’re not talking about Reese Witherspoon’s “side gig” of owning a production company. We’re talking about jobs that you or I could be doing right now, but that Marilyn Manson and Bill Murray do in their spare time. From saving the bees to hosting at restaurants, these celebrities are just like us!
Your Morning Avocado And Toast Could Be Courtesy Of Tom Selleck
Tom Selleck, known for his role on Magnum P.I. as the private investigator with the sense of justice and facial hair that just won’t quit, is also an avocado farmer. You read that correctly. This career transition makes sense though— crime never sleeps and neither do the delicate agricultural needs of his ripening crops.
Selleck began growing every hipster’s favorite fruit because he liked the exercise and time outdoors it gave him. His business is profitable and he’s known for trash-talking rival avocado farmer Jamie Foxx about his fruit quality.
Ron Weasley Could Be Your Landlord
Listen, we all have mixed feelings about our landlords. They’re never there when you need them, they can never get the pipes fixed on time, and they never text us when they’re coming over. But imagine having Rupert Grint as your landlord…it would be magical.
Grint has traded in his wand for a lease and has become a hugely popular landlord in the Uk owning a company that’s got a property portfolio of £12 million — that’s $14 million USD. It’s probably safe to say he listens to your tenant concerns.
Flea Could Bee Behind The Honey In Your Next Cup Of Tea
This flea has been hanging out with bees. The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist relaxes by trading in his strings for a full beekeeping suit and is one of the most high profile apiarists in the world. Burt and his bees should be worried by the competition.
Since 2015 when Flea decided to join the noble quest to save the bees, he’s gathered 3 hives that take care of 200,000 bees. Even though we know that Hollywood sells Californication, Flea definitely sells us on his apiary skills.
You Can Watch YouTuber 2Chainz Review Luxury Goods Online
Besides being an award-winning rapper and doting dog-father to French bulldog Trappy, 2Chainz also appears on Vice’s YouTube channel where he hosts “Most Expensivist.” The show follows 2Chainz as he tours and samples the most expensive experiences and food that America has to offer.
That includes a $100,000 bottle of water that he and Diplo tasted. Why did it cost so much? It had diamonds on the lid. If it’s covered in gold foil, diamonds, or truffle oil then 2Chainz will try it.
Allan Ginsburg Worked As A Roadie For Bob Dylan
During Bob Dylan’s 1975 “Rolling Thunder Revue” tour he had a bunch of special guests and rock legends make appearances — that includes Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez just to name two. But even the crew was star-studded since nationally celebrated and award-winning Beats poet Allen Ginsburg rolled up his sleeves to be a roadie.
Reportedly they couldn’t find time for Ginsburg to perform even a minute of his poetry on the tour, so he offered to help out anyway. You can learn more about it watching Martin Scorsese’s’ Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story.
Daniel Day-Lewis Had An Apprenticeship That’ll Make You Wonder If He’s From The 16th Century
Nothing against cobblers — they’re part of a storied and booming industry. But Daniel Day-Lewis working as a cobbler’s apprentice? After 1997’s The Boxer, Day-Lewis took a little break from acting to apprentice under famed and respected Italian Cobbler Stefano Bemer who designs and makes custom shoes for his line Bespoke.
Reportedly, Day-Lewis had refused to read scripts for movies while working as the cobbler because he wanted to put all of his time and attention to the craft he was pursuing. It’s great that he can dedicate himself like that and really work on bettering his sole.
Steve Martin Has Conquered The Acting World And Has Moved On To Music
Bluegrass musician is probably the last thing you’d think of when you hear the name Steve Martin, but that’s exactly what he is. He’s good too. The actor and musician has won one of the five prestigious International Bluegrass Music Achievement awards.
Martin has been playing the banjo since he was 15 and continues to occasionally play alongside Asheville based Steep Canyon Rangers. He also famously banjo dueled none other than Kermit the Frog who he lost to. That frog has game.
Justin Timberlake Used To Own Myspace
So this isn’t technically a part-time job, but it’s definitely a niche and probably bad financial decision so we’re putting it on the list. Back in 2011, far after Myspace’s glory days from 2006-2008, Justin Timberlake purchased the aging social network site jointly for $35 million.
Since then, MySpace has been sold again to Time Inc in 2016 as scrap in an ad tech deal, so it’s safe to say Timberlake may have made a bad investment. Wouldn’t it have been great to work there and see Timberlake in breakroom getting coffee? Bye bye bye, MySpace.
Take One Second To Imagine Marilyn Manson Doing Watercolor Paintings
You know Marilyn Manson? The “Antichrist Superstar.” The one who plunged a beer bottle into his chest onstage among other notable things? Well, he’s like the rest of us and needs balance in his life. While he was famous and making tabloid news every day for his antics he was also doing watercolor paintings.
The paintings are pretty much what you’d imagine from Manson — still figures, blood, and nudity. But they’re done with a steady head and showcase the skills and color theory Manson has cultivated over the years. Back in 2007, one even sold for $105,000.
Ask Hawkeye What Countertop Goes With Your Appliances
When he’s not played Hawkeye in Avengers and shooting bad guys with his bow and arrows, he’s taking down bad wallpaper and renovating homes. That’s right, Jeremy Renner is a home flipper, but don’t expect a small-scale weekend project. The last home he flipped he sold for $24 million.
We all know that renos are costly. When he was nominated for the Hurt Locker he was so broke he was living in a tent in one of his homes. Luckily, Marvel pays pretty well so he can continue being Renner-the-renovator.
Erykah Badu Has Delivered Multiple Grammy-Award Winning Hits And Is Certified To Help Deliver Babies
We already knew Erykah Badu was the coolest and most spiritually in touch person in the world. But knowing that she’s a certified doula as well as being a celebrated musician truly makes her seem otherworldly. A doula is similar to a midwife in that they provide support to a mother before, during, and after the birth of their child.
After attending the birth of a friend’s child, Badu was inspired and she’s helped deliver 40 babies since 2001. We’re all thinking about getting pregnant if this goddess can be there to help.
Dylan Sprouse Was A Host And A Brewster
Look we’ve all got part-time jobs in college, and that’s rule still apparently applies even if you’re a super famous child actor on Disney’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. When he was attending NYU’s Gallatin School, he picked up some host shifts at a local NYC restaurant to get out of the house and fund his love for video games.
Since his host days, Sprouse has gone on to establish All-Wise Meadery in Brooklyn. Now if grabbing a pint with the legendary twin doesn’t sound like the coolest thing ever, then we don’t know what does.
Bill Murray Holds The “Director Of Fun” Title For This Minor League Baseball Team
You know what they say, if you can’t play, coach. But you may not have heard that if your schedule is busy you’re an award-winning actor and comedian, become the “Director of Fun” and co-owner for a minor league team. That’s exactly what Bill Murray is for the Charleston RiverDogs, a Yankees Low-A affiliate in the South Atlantic League.
Murray is a huge Cubs fan, so he funneled his passion for baseball into helping build the RiverDogs. He’s even tried to bribe the refs as a joke at one of their games. I think all of us would’ve taken it.
Tony Bennet Has Paintings Displayed At The Smithsonian
You’d think that winning 20 Grammys and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award would inspire you to take it easy, but no, not for Tony Bennett. Instead of just being an internationally recognized musician, Bennett went and became an award-winning painter. This incredible man has 3 works in the Smithsonian right now.
Bennet has been painting or sketching every day since he was 4 and does it all under the name Anthony Benedetto. We hope he hangs his own work and tells the installers that it don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing.
Professor James Franco Could Teach You A Film Class On Tuesday Afternoons
James Franco may not be the first person you think of when you hear the title “professor,” but that’s exactly what he is. At NYU and then later UCLA and USC, Franco taught filmmaking courses while still pursuing acting. He’s qualified too — he’s got his masters in filmmaking from NYU among other degrees.
Despite the controversies and allegations surrounding Franco, it seems like teaching’s still and open door for him. One student actually reported he put “Jersey Shore” on the syllabus and has a 4.1/5 on Rate My Professor.
You Can Buy Lady Marmalade’s Sweet Potato Pies At Walmart
We’re not talking about the Christina Aguilera version. We’re talking about the original and the fantastic Patti Labelle and the Bluebelles’ 1974 disco tune. Hey sister, go sister and snag one of Patti Labelle’s Sweet Potato pies that she sells at Walmart for only $4.
This is more of a business venture than a part-time job, but we respect Labelle’s passion for the food that inspired her to sell her own original recipe. While you’re in the store getting one, get some real marmalade to spread on top.
You Could’ve Gotten Handcuffed And Arrested By Steven Seagal Because We’re Living In A Crazy World
Right now, Steven Seagal is not doing much of anything. But there was a time before all of this when his career included a television show about his work as a deputy in LA called Steven Seagal: Lawman.
The show ended because of a huge controversy involving Seagal, but when it was up and running you could actually see him arrest people. This included busting an illegal cockfighting ring and seizing 100 chickens. You’re not dreaming by the way.
Actor Rob Lowe Will Make Your Skin Glow
Though he’s been involved in his own set of controversies, Rob Lowe is an actor turned men’s beauty aficionado and has started his own line of “Men’s Performance Grooming” products called Profile. Whatever men’s performance grooming is, it definitely sounds intense so we’re interested.
Say what you will about the famous actor’s career and personal life, but he does have great skin. For only $15.00 you can pick up a tube of his anti-aging cream and have the same gravity-defying skin as him.
Rita Wilson, Actress, Producer, And Wife To Tom Hanks Is Also A Journalist And The Coolest Person Ever
Some people can just do it all. That’s the case for actual living superhuman Rita Wilson who’s been acting in huge blockbuster movies like My Big Fat Greek Wedding since 1972 and producing even bigger ones like Mama Mia since 2002. While she’s got all this on her plate, Rita is also a contributing editor for Harper’s Bazaar and Editor at Large for Huffington Post.
Thanks to her articulate and in-depth journalism work on the platforms, you can read about her life, opinions, and struggles when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She’s truly incredible.
Even Princes Get Part-Time Jobs…Flying Rescue Helicopters
Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge. is no stranger to Disney movies about Prince Charming rescuing those in need since he’s been a full-time pilot with the British RAF Search And Rescue Force since 2009.
The Duke has also been a pilot with the East Anglican Air Ambulance from 2014-2017 and donates his entire paid salary to the EAAA charity. All members of the royal family are required to do service. Queen Elizabeth even drove a truck during WW2!
