These Celebrities Tied The Knot In Sin City
We can all collectively thank Diplo's Instagram story for revealing to the internet that Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner secretly married in Las Vegas. After the 2019 Billboard Music Awards wrapped up, Joe and Sophie headed over to the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas and said "I Do" in front of an Elvis impersonator.
Joe and Sophie aren't the only ones who opted for a secret low-key wedding in Sin City instead of an over-the-top celebrity bash. See their wedding ceremony for yourself and find out which celebrities went to Vegas to say, "I Do."
Joe And Sophie Went Straight From The Awards To The Chapel
After the Jonas Brothers brought down the house performing at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards, Joe and Sophie traveled a few blocks away to the Little White Chapel. Only a select few A-listers at the Billboard Awards knew about the impromptu nuptials.
It's still not clear whether the shotgun wedding was planned beforehand or if they decided mid-award show. Considering the fact Turner shed her green mosaic bodysuit for a satin white jumpsuit, we have to assume there was some measure of planning involved.
Many Celebrities From The Billboard Awards Followed
The only reason we found out about their wedding was because DJ Diplo decided to post some photos and videos from it to his Instagram story. Diplo wasn't the only celebrity to be in attendance though. Inside, country singers Dan + Shay sang their song "Speechless" as Sophie walked down the aisle.
Also in attendance was Joe's brothers Nick and Kevin who served as groomsmen, and Nick's new bride Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, who appeared to serve as Sophie's maid of honor.
A Vegas Wedding Wasn't Always The Plan
After the couple announced their engagement in October 2017, Joe told People Magazine that they were planning a wedding in France. Sophie confirmed the plans and even said her Game of Thrones co-star and real-life BFF Maisie Williams would be her maid of honor.
Despite being named as the maid of honor, Maisie was notably absent from the Vegas wedding and Priyanka stepped in. There might still be a chance though because the newlyweds are still planning on having a symbolic ceremony in France.
They Kept It Low-Key For A Reason
The reason why Joe and Sophie are keeping the French wedding is that a religious ceremony there isn't recognized unless one of the people have lived in France for at least forty days prior. That means that the pair would have to legally marry elsewhere before the France nuptials.
That might be why Joe and Sophie seemingly didn't take things too seriously. They exchanged Ring Pop candy rings in place of actual wedding bands. Even their post-ceremony photo seemed more relaxed than formal.
Angelina Jolie Wore Jeans To Her Vegas Wedding
Long before she was the queen of philanthropy and the perfect mother to six children, Angelina Jolie was Hollywood's resident wild child. She was famously in the strangest relationship with Billy Bob Thornton. When they weren't making out on red carpets and wearing necklaces with each other's blood in it, they were eloping to Vegas to get married.
The pair were only dating for two months before getting hitched in Las Vegas where Jolie wore jeans and Thornton wore a trucker hat.
Nicolas Cage Filed For Divorce 4 Days After His Vegas Wedding
A Vegas wedding is pretty on-brand for the eccentric actor Nicolas Cage. He married makeup artist Erika Koike in a Las Vegas ceremony. Not much was know about the marriage except that four days later, he filed for an annulment. The couple claimed they were "too drunk" and that they had "reacted on impulse."
The four-day wedding was Cage's fourth wedding. His longest marriage lasted 12 years and was to his third wife, Alice Kim.
Kelly Ripa And Mark Consuelos Are Still Married Decades Later
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos met on the set of All My Children. The pair dated secretly for a year until he popped the question one night while they were eating pizza and watching television. The morning show host said she didn't think he was serious so to prove that he was, Consuelos said, "Let's go to Vegas tomorrow."
They eloped in 1996, were married in a small ceremony, had their first child one year later, and have been together ever since.
Shia LaBeouf And Mia Goth Livestreamed Their Vegas Wedding
For many couples, the point of eloping is to keep things low-key and ultra-private, but LaBeouf and his longtime girlfriend Goth ended up with the exact opposite. The pair didn't plan to live stream the event but as LaBeouf told Ellen DeGeneres, the live stream was "part of the King Tut package."
LaBeouf and Goth rolled up to the wedding in a pink Cadillac and had an Elvis impersonator officiate the ceremony. The marriage only last two years and the pair separated in September 2018.
Britney Spears Was Married For Only 55 Hours In Vegas
One of the original short-term Vegas weddings was between Britney Spears and her childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander. The pair got hitched in Sin City in 2004 after partying all night at the Palms Casino Hotel before taking a stretch limousine to the Little White Wedding Chapel.
According to Alexander, it was Spears who asked him to marry her. Like nearly every other man in 2004, Alexander wasn't going to say 'no' to the biggest pop star on the planet.
Frank Sinatra And Mia Farrow Had The Original Vegas Wedding
While Las Vegas weddings might seem slightly tacky nowadays, Vegas used to be a go-to spot in the 1960s for classy celebrity marriages. Frank Sinatra was in the middle of a residency in Vegas when he married actress Mia Farrow at The Sands Hotel in 1966.
Ol' Blue Eyes was 48 and she was only 19 at the time, which might explain why the marriage only lasted two years. He was the one to call it off by sending Farrow the divorce papers while she was on the set of Rosemary's Baby.
Jon Bon Jovi Married His High School Sweetheart And The Band Wasn't Happy About It
In 1989, the lead singer of Bon Jovi traveled to Vegas with his high school sweetheart, Dorothea Hurley, to tie the knot. The wedding was very informal and the couple didn't even exchange rings. While the pair was happy about the marriage, Bon Jovi's bandmates were not.
According to the singer, "everybody was pissed off" but it didn't matter to him or Dorothea. The marriage has managed to last all these years and the couple is still going strong.
Jodie Sweetin Tied The Knot After Only Two Months Of Dating
The former Full House and current Fuller House star said "I Do" at the Little White Wedding Chapel to Cody Herpin. Herpin was a film transportation coordinator that had met Sweetin just a few months after she divorced from her first husband. Jodie and Cody only dated for a few months before tying the knot, but they lasted almost two years before separating.
During the marriage, Sweetin was also suffering from substance abuse. One month after filing for divorce from Herpin, she announced she was sober for good so maybe there was a silver lining.
Melanie Griffith's First Marriage To Don Johnson Was In Vegas
Griffith and Johnson were married (and divorced) twice. Griffith was only 14 years old when she first met Johnson in 1973 on the set of The Harrad Experiment. The two began dating and in 1976, when Griffith was 18 years old, they said "I Do" in Las Vegas. The first marriage only lasted six months before it was annulled.
The pair reconnected in 1989 after Griffith recovered from substance abuse, and were married again, this time in a more lavish ceremony. The second marriage lasted until 1996.
Pamela Anderson Also Married The Same Person Twice
Just like Griffith, Pamela Anderson is another blonde bombshell who married the same person twice. Anderson's more famous relationship was to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, but in 2007 she wed again to film producer Rick Salomon. The pair applied for their marriage license in Las Vegas and had a small ceremony at the Mirage Hotel.
Anderson filed for divorce two months later citing fraud, yet the couple remarried again in 2014, then got divorced again a year later.
Carmen Electra Married Dennis Rodman After A Bender
In August 1998, Carmen Electra lost her mother to brain cancer followed by her sister two weeks later to a heart attack. Understandably, Electra went through a dark period of grief and leaned on her then-boyfriend NBA star Dennis Rodman.
Three months after the tragic deaths, Electra and Rodman married in Vegas after a night-long bender. They annulled the marriage six months later and Electra later admitted that the marriage was simply a coping mechanism for her.
Leah Remini's Vegas Wedding Was Filmed For VH1
Actress Leah Remini met her husband, actor Angelo Pagán, in 1996 and they finally tied the knot in 2003. The wedding took place in Las Vegas but it wasn't a spur of the moment decision. The lavish wedding happened at the Four Seasons Hotel and was even filmed as a special for VH1.
The pair are still together and Pagán has been a supporter of Remini's decision to leave the Church of Scientology in 2013.
Cindy Crawford Regretted Her Vegas Wedding To Richard Gere
In 1991, Cindy Crawford was one of the top supermodels in the world and was dating Pretty Woman actor Richard Gere. The pair had been together for six years before finally decided to say "I Do" on a trip to Las Vegas. They stayed together until 1995 before divorcing.
Crawford later said that while she didn't regret the Vegas wedding, the 17-year age gap was what eventually ended their relationship because they couldn't relate to each other.
Demi Moore And Bruce Willis Secretly Married In 1987
The two actors had only been dating for a few months before taking a weekend trip to the Little White Wedding Chapel to get hitched. The shotgun wedding stayed a secret because the Reverend who married them didn't actually know who they were.
Moore and Willis are one of the few who lasted quite a while after the impromptu nuptials. They eventually renewed their vows in Los Angeles and were married for thirteen years before divorcing in 2000.
Bette Midler Finally Got Her Vegas Wedding Photos 14 Years Later
The Broadway icon married artist Martin von Haselberg just six weeks after meeting for the first time. The pair traveled to the Starlight Chapel in Las Vegas where they were wed by an Elvis impersonator. The wedding was so spur-of-the-moment that Midler said she didn't even bother to wait around for copies of the wedding pictures.
The couple is still going strong today and eventually got those wedding photos. The chapel shut down in 2008 and their original photos were mailed to them.
Christina Milian's Marriage To The Dream Wasn't Exactly A Dream
The singer, actress, and songwriter has never had much luck with relationships and unfortunately, her marriage to music producer The Dream was no different. The pair began dating in February 2009 and in May that same year, it was revealed that they were secretly engaged. One month later, they wed at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas.
The pair was set to have another ceremony in Rome that year, but they separated three months before the ceremony after The Dream admitted to cheating.
