Needless to say, Ariana Grande has had a big year. But nothing prepared any of us for what was to come in her video for “thank u, next” – a breakup anthem/homage to all of her ex-boyfriends. Can you say major Mean Girls nostalgia?

Richard Tsong-Taatarii/Minneapolis Star Tribune/Zuma

Back in June 2018, a daredevil raccoon in St. Paul, Minnesota held the world captive with his 23-story climb that ended very well considering the circumstances. The raccoon – now known as the MPR raccoon in honor of the Minnesota Public Radio employees who spotted the little bandit scaling a nearby skyscraper – became a viral sensation as viewers around the world rooted for a safe ending to his wild journey.

It must have been a scary ride for the little guy as it took him nearly 20 hours scaling the building alone without any water or food. The raccoon has since been safely captured.

There comes a time when the tea just has to be spilled and Hillary Clinton had perfect timing when she roasted former FBI director James Comey on Twitter.

After it was announced that Comey had used a personal email account for his own official government business – after opening an investigation on Clinton ahead of the 2016 presidential election for the same thing – Hillary took matters into her own hands and it was pretty comical. "But my emails," Clinton tweeted back in June, setting the internet ablaze; a tweet so iconic it kind of lives up to "Delete your account."

Some may feel that a trip to Walmart is where dreams go to die, but not for Mason Ramsey. The world was introduced to the yodeling boy in Walmart back in April after he posted a video of himself performing “Lovesick Blues” in an Illinois Walmart superstore.

It only took that twist of fate for Ramsey to become a literal overnight sensation as memes, mashups and hilarious tweets all circled around him. He even snagged an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and at Coachella, of all places! Ramsey has since cashed in on his fame by releasing an original song and music video for a track called “Famous.” Talk about making your own luck!

Who knew that in order to be pseudo-famous, all you had to do was act disinterested? The internet was ablaze with tweets and memes surrounding 13-year-old Ryan McKenna, who seemed to be more interested in his phone than what was going on onstage with Justin Timberlake at the Super Bowl Halftime show.

It only took seconds for the internet to make up memes describing what McKenna could possibly have been Googling during Timberlake’s set. After an appearance on TODAY, McKenna explained that the whole thing was a misunderstanding and that he was really excited to see Justin perform live, but was just having trouble with his phone when he tried to snap a selfie with him.

The Internet Was Divided Once Again Over Yanny vs. Laurel

After the whole incident with “The Dress,” the internet was divided yet again by Yanny vs. Laurel. Back in May, a video was posted on Reddit and Twitter in which you can hear an automated voice saying one word twice. Some thought it was saying “Yanny” while others thought it was “Laurel.”

The debate went on as people kept replaying the audio back and forth. In the end, it was revealed that the automated voice was actually saying both names at once, but at different frequencies. For example: if you’re playing the audio at higher volume, you’ll hear “Laurel,” but if you play it at a lower volume, you’ll hear “Yanny.”

That Moment When the World Fell in Love With a Giant Cow…

You never know what will go viral on the internet, and sometimes it’s the most peculiar yet adorable things that capture our hearts the most. When Knickers, a 7-year-old Holstein-Friesian cow from Australia was discovered, it took the web by storm! The 6-foot, 4-inch tall bovine towers over his counterparts.

Knickers weighs 3,086 pounds and he might just be a self-fulfilling prophecy! After just a few years of growth, Knickers had become too large to put through a processing facility! Looks like luck is on his side!

We’ve heard of crazy celebrity schedules before but nothing baffled the internet more than the bizarre daily schedule of Mark Wahlberg. It’s no secret that celebrities live rather strange lives, but Wahlberg takes it to the next level by waking up at 2:30 am, working out twice a day for several hours at a time, along with a daily “cryotherapy chamber recovery” session.

What? He also makes time for a game of golf at 7:30 every morning. While the memes were being produced left and right about the bizarre daily schedules of others, Wahlberg shared that the rumors weren’t totally accurate.

The Turkey Microwave Challenge Was On!

When people pranked their parents and grandparents this Thanksgiving asking how long it takes to cook a 25-pound turkey in a microwave, parents panicked. Rightfully so, as a 25-pound turkey is huge and shouldn’t be cooked in a microwave- ever!

Of course, the prank went viral with all sorts of hilarious suggestions from wrapping it in foil while going out to buy a pre-cooked one in order to feed the fire department, to a protest of the entire holiday of Thanksgiving given its history. Needless to say: a viral prank will always ensue all sorts of hilarity.

The Two people Hugging Optical Illusion Had Us All Shook!

When a photo was posted on Twitter of two people hugging in May 2018, it divided the internet, much like “The Dress” and the whole Yanny vs. Laurel debacle. At first glance, it looks like a man is bent over hugging a woman, who is sitting down at her desk. But the closer you look, the stranger it gets as it starts to appear that the man is wearing the white jeans and heels.

So naturally, the internet became divided on who was actually wearing the heels. Eventually, people explained and demonstrated how the girl is actually the one bending over and hugging the man sitting at his desk. Do you see it?

IHOP Rebranded Their Name to IHOB and Nothing Made Sense

IHOP has always been known as the International House Of Pancakes with, you guessed it, pancakes as their top seller. This past summer, the company temporarily changed their name to IHOB to promote their new line of burgers as their sole focus, which had customers scratching their heads.

The company later changed their name back, admitting that it was all a sales gimmick. The internet, however, was furious and rather amused at the clever promotion. Forever known as a popular breakfast chain, IHOP offered 60 cent short stacks to apologize for the mix-up, stating that they would never turn their back on pancakes.

Marvel Studios / Walt Disney Pictures

Black Panther shattered box office records and inspired zillions of memes and trending topics, proving to be one of the most successful films both in the Marvel and Disney franchises, respectively.

One of the most heartwarming events was seeing viral videos of schools taking children to go see the movie, along with the #M’BakuChallenge – a trend that called on people to recreate some of the most iconic lines from Jabari tribe leader M’Baku, played by Winston Duke. The movie is still on the minds of fans and will without a doubt be a favorite for generations to come.

Bardia Zeinali / YouTube

From 2012’s “Call Me Maybe” to 2015’s “I Really Like You,” Carly Rae Jepsen really knows how to craft a catchy pop song. It’s been three years since her last release and once the singer unleashed her new single “Party For One,” the internet freaked out, and for good reason.

The song’s music video features a solo Carly Rae in a hotel room having her own party while others in the same hotel do the same. An anthem for self-love and acceptance, “Party For One” is exactly what we’ve been anticipating from our favorite Canadian pop goddess!

The Cardi B / Nicki Minaj feud was disturbing at best.

It’s no secret that rapper Cardi B had an amazing year in 2018, but one of her most talked about moments involved fellow female rapper Nicki Minaj. During a New York Fashion Week party, the two of them were seen fighting back and forth with one another.

Cardi was allegedly elbowed in the face by a security guard before reportedly throwing a shoe (high-heels to be exact) at Minaj. After Cardi was escorted out barefoot, the two stars took to social media to clash yet again. Words were exchanged but unfortunately, no resolution has been made. We hope these two can get along.
