For Better Or For Worse: New Celebrity Couples Of 2018
A lot can happen in a year, especially when it comes to love. For better or for worse, these celebrity couples blessed us with new relationships in 2018. While some of these couples fizzled out before the winter season was even over, others managed to go from acquaintances to husband and wife all in the span of 12 months (we’re looking at you Nick and Priyanka). From Chris Pratt’s new lady to the bizarre love story of Elon Musk and Grimes, check out the celebrities who got together in 2018.
Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson sure took us on a wild ride.
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra
When Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra starting dating in the spring of 2018, people were quick to put an expiration date on their relationship due to their age difference (Jonas is 10 years younger than Chopra). But despite the tabloid gossip, it appeared things were getting serious, and fast.
Soon enough, Jonas was down on one knee proposing, just two months after they confirmed their relationship. Since then, the genetically-gifted duo has had the world’s attention. In December 2018, the couple made it official, tying the knot in a Western wedding followed by an elaborate Hindi ceremony in which the newly-minted Mrs. Jonas wore a 75-foot-long veil.
Robert Pattinson and Suki Waterhouse
We’ve been rooting for Robert Pattinson ever since his messy breakup with his former Twilight costar Kristen Stewart. All was right with the world when he and FKA Twigs got together, but our hearts were, again, broken when the pair called it quits in 2017 after two years of dating.
During the summer of 2018, R. Pats was spotted with the gorgeous Suki Waterhouse, and we definitely fangirled for a minute. The two were first seen galavanting about London in July, reportedly catching a screening of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, before enjoying some late-night drinks. While they have yet to confirm whether or not they’re officially dating, they have been caught on a handful of cute dates since the summer — and come on, look at those laughs!
Noah Cyrus and Lil Xan
Miley Cyrus shared the spotlight with her little sis Noah this year when the youngest sister found love with Diego Leanos, known by most as ‘Lil Xan.’ Cyrus and the Soundcloud rapper confirmed their new relationship in August 2018 when they made their PDA-fueled pubic debut at the MTV Video Music Awards. While some may have thought the duo was cute, a relationship with someone named ‘Lil Xan’ can only last so long.
It came as no surprise when the two called it quits a few weeks later, but not before we got to witness a series of emotional and messy (and entertaining if we’re being honest) Instagram stories where they both accused the other of cheating.
Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger
When the news hit that Chris Pratt and Anna Faris had split up, the universe confirmed that true love doesn’t exist. Pratt and Faris were one of the most likable celebrity couples in the history of celebrity couples! If they can’t make it work no one can! So when Pratt was rumored to be dating Katherine Schwarzenegger no one knew how to feel.
The two were spotted throughout 2018 canoodling here and there. Schwarzenegger was even photographed with Pratt’s son. If there was any doubt about their relationship status, Pratt made it crystal-clear when he posted the above photo along with the caption: “Happy Birthday Chief! Your smile lights up the room. I’ve cherished our time together. Thrilled God put you in my life. Thankful for the laughs, kisses, talks, hikes, love and care.”
We’re happy for them, WE GUESS.
Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson
If there was a single celebrity relationship that defined 2018, it was Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson. The two met on the set of SNL in 2016, but nothing came of it since both of them were in serious relationships at the time. Fast-forward to 2018 and Grande and Davidson both mysteriously became single in what seemed like seconds from each other.
What followed was a whirlwind romance that saw the couple engaged just a month after they started dating. There was a ring, matching tattoos, and even a song on Grande’s new album literally called ‘pete davidson.’ If the song wasn’t so good we’d be more skeptical. Still, Grande and Davidson’s relationship was over just as soon as it started. The two split in early November 2018 and just two weeks later Grande blessed with the ultimate breakup anthem, ‘thank u, next.’
In a few slides, meet Jennifer Lawrence’s new beau.
Elon Musk and Grimes
Elon Musk and Claire Boucher, known professionally as Grimes, surprised everyone when they showed up to the 2018 Met Gala together. The Tesla CEO and the musician reportedly met on Twitter earlier in the year when they bonded over a joke about artificial intelligence. Things only grew stranger from there.
After dating just a few weeks, Grimes announced Musk had convinced her to change her name to ‘c‘ in a reference to the speed of light (weird flex, but ok). But that was casual in comparison to a series of oddball tweets Elon sent out about Tesla soon after (re Tesla booty shorts). It turns out that Musk’s behavior can be blamed on a three-day acid bender he went on with Grimes, who was trying to stop him from using his phone. Elon was slapped with a $20 million fine from the S.E.C. and Grimes has since unfollowed him from Twitter. Nobody said love was easy.
Josh Duhamel and Eiza Gonzalez
If you missed the part of 2018 where these two dated, you’re not alone. Fresh off his split from ex-wife Fergie, Josh Duhamel and Eiza Gonzalez started heating things up in the beginning of 2018. A source close to Gonzalez confirmed in June of 2018 that the couple had been quietly dating for months.
That same source told People that “He’s really attracted to her and things are going pretty well.” And it seemed true. The new couple was photographed on the beach and out to dinner multiple times, smiling and hand-in-hand. Unfortunately, someone had a change of heart because the pair reportedly split in July.
Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney
Jennifer Lawrence’s ex-boyfriends include Darren Aronofsky, Chris Martin, and Nicholas Hoult — A.K.A. people who are famous. But this time around, J. Law is dating someone completely ‘normal’, well sort of.
In 2018, Hollywood’s sweetheart started dating Cooke Maroney. Maroney keeps a pretty low profile, but a little digging turned up that he works in the New York City art scene. As the director of Gladstone 64, a gallery in the Upper East Side, he apparently represents the likes of several famous artists and Lena Dunham’s dad…? The two were introduced by one of Lawrence’s best friends, and have been going strong since May 2018.
Logan Paul and Chloe Bennet
People have a lot of feelings about the controversial YouTube star Logan Paul, but Chloe Bennet’s feelings are only the good kind. The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star confirmed she was dating Paul back in July of 2018 and says he has “changed her life for the better.”
When a fan on Twitter asked her to elaborate, Bennet tweeted, “Cause he’s kind, creative, funny, vibrantly curious about life, weird as [expletive] in all the best ways, a big dork, and he’s one of my best friends.” Maybe we’ll see them together in a highly-offensive YouTube video soon!
Niall Horan and Hailee Steinfeld
Niall Horan and Hailee Steinfeld never confirmed their relationship, but if you ask us, it was pretty obvious. Horan attended a handful of Steinfeld’s gigs throughout 2018 and Steinfield was spotted sporting the former One Directioner’s merch.
Whatever these two are, they’re cute together. Or should we say were cute together? In December 2018, it was reported that the duo officially called off whatever sort of relationship they had thanks to scheduling issues. Steinfeld, in particular, felt she had a lot of her plate, and after realizing the two wouldn’t be able to see each other for months, called it quits.
Up next: this couple dated in 2010 and started fresh in 2018!
Audrina Patridge and Ryan Cabrera
No, this isn’t a photo from The Hills circa 2010 — it’s a recent-ish photo from early 2018. This year, to our hearts’ delight, Audrina Patridge and Ryan Cabrera reunited. The two briefly dated in 2010 but called in quits the same year. In the last eight years, Patridge went on to get married, have a baby, and file for divorce while Cabrera has continued to focus on his music career.
The two rekindled their romance in 2018 and Patridge even told People she was “the happiest I’ve ever been right now” after getting back together with Cabrera. For undisclosed reasons, the couple split yet again in September 2018. Maybe the third time’s a charm?
Adam Rippon and Jussi-Pekka Kajaala
Adam Rippon stole our hearts the first time we watch him set foot (skate?) on the ice. The openly gay figure skater casually took home an Olympic medal and then flexed his dance moves on Dancing with the Stars (he won that too).
With everything on Rippon’s plate, it’s a surprise he found love in 2018, but he did, thanks to Tinder. Rippon met Finnish real estate broker Jussi-Pekka Kajaala on the dating app and the two are now in a committed relationship. Kajaala is even looking to relocate to Los Angeles to be with Rippon, who says, “The time apart is hard. But we have a lot going on, so we make it work.”
Cassadee Pope and Sam Palladio
Cassadee Pope and Sam Palladios’ relationship began as all great relationships do: she slid into his DMs. The country musician and the Nashville actor made their red-carpet debut in August 2018 and have been going strong since.
Pope, who was previously engaged, shared the details about how she hooked Palladios. “I went on Instagram,” Pope recalls. “I was ready to get back out there and start dating. And I remembered I met him six years ago and never saw him again. And I was like, ‘That guy’s hot. I’m going to message him.’ And then he messaged me back.”
Meet Hermione’s, we mean Emma’s, new dude next.
Emma Watson and Chord Overstreet
Emma Watson and Chord Overstreet were romantically linked in March 2018 after they were seen strolling hand-in-hand around Los Angeles. By May, the Harry Potter alum and the former Glee star had called quits with a source telling People that their relationship “was never going to be a long-term thing.”
But three weeks following their breakup, Watson and Overstreet were seen engaging in some serious PDA. For now, it seems like these two lovebirds are going strong and will be ringing in the New Year together.
Stassi Schroeder and Beau Clark
When you’re the star of one of Bravo’s biggest reality shows, keeping your love life under wraps isn’t exactly realistic. Still, Stassi Schroeder tried her best to remain hush-hush about her relationship with Beau Clark the last year. So who exactly is this mystery man?
Apparently, the two were introduced by none other than Schroeder’s Vanderpump Rules co-stars, Katie Maloney and Kristen Doute (yes, the same Kristen that Stassi had a years-long feud with). Beau is a commercial casting and advertising associate meaning he’s definitely more comfortable being behind-the-scenes, but rumor has it we will be seeing more of him on the series.
Lucy Hale and Riley Smith
Lucy Hale and Riley Smith first sparked rumors that they were dating back in February 2018 when they were spotted kissing following a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner. They were later seen together again attending the Max Mara WIF Face of the future, looking happy as ever.
In May, however, it was announced that the couple’s CW series Life Sentence had been canceled after just one season. In July, it was reported that Hale and Smith had called it quits. While they never released an official statement explaining why they split, losing their jobs at the same time probably put some stress on their relationship.
Camila Cabello and Matthew Hussey
Camila Cabello, known for her hit songs ‘Havana’ and ‘Never Be the Same,’ is in love and doesn’t care who knows it. The singer met relationship expert Matthew Hussey on the set of Today and the two went public with their relationship in early 2018.
In an interview with Marie Claire, Cabello opened up about her love life, saying she’s “in love” with her British beau. “He’s so similar to me…In person, we’re just weird and silly and stupid together,” she added. “He makes me the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.”
The next celeb on our list got engaged, married, and pregnant all in 2018!
Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer
2018 was a huge year for Amy Schumer. The I Feel Pretty star started the year by marrying her chef boyfriend in a surprise ceremony in Malibu. Schumer was linked to Chris Fischer in late 2017 but denied the two had a romantic relationship —that is until she posted a photo of the two at the altar with the caption “Yup.”
Things only got more exciting for Schumer as she revealed she was pregnant in October, joking, “Chris and I are thrilled and almost positive he’s the father. I look forward to competing with Markle every step of the way.”
Dane Cook and Kelsi Taylor
Funnyman Dane Cook and singer-songwriter Kelsi Taylor made their public couple debut sometime in early 2018 and quickly turned heads thanks to their 26-year age gap (Cook is 46 and Taylor is just 19). Throughout 2018, the two were spotted at numerous baseball games and were even captured showing off some serious PDA while vacationing in Maui.
In August, Cook took to his Instagram stories to answer a few questions about his and Taylor’s relationship. In response to a follower asking for advice for those with a big age gap in their relationship, Cook wrote, “The only thing you have to do is plan that your deaths will be somewhat far apart.” Cute? Maybe. But we’re still not sure how we feel about this one.
Shailene Woodley and Ben Volavola
Shailene Woodley met Ben Volavola while filming a new movie, Adrift, in Fiji. The Fault In Our Stars actress caught the eye of the rugby professional when she popped in to watch a game. The two made their relationship Instagram official in January 2018.
Since then, the adorable duo has been photographed walking the red carpet together and engaging in some serious PDA throughout Los Angeles. In November 2018, Woodley was spotted sporting what looked like a baby bump but it was later revealed the bump was actually a prosthetic for a forthcoming untitled Drake Doremus film
