The music world is buzzing with excitement for the June 16 release of Lorde‘s sophomore record, Melodrama! After the success of 2013’s Pure Heroine, the singer took some time to herself to plan her next step and with the release of “Green Light” and “Liability,” we are more than ready for the new Lorde! Her full name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor.

She chose her stage name due to her fascination with “royals and aristocracy.”

She was the second female artist to top the Billboard Alt-Chart after Tracy Bonham in 1996.
She is the youngest solo artist and only New Zealander to achieve a US number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 since 1987.
She was signed to a major label at just 13 years-old!
Her mother, Sonja Yelich, is an award winning poet.
She proofread her mother’s 40,000 word Master’s thesis while still in high school.
She turned down an opening spot on a tour with Katy Perry saying she, “followed her gut instinct.”
In 2014, she collaborated with M.A.C. cosmetics for her own limited edition collection: a lipstick named Pure Heroine and Penultimate eyeliner in Rapidblack.
She has her own wax figure on display at Madame Tussauds in Hollywood.
