How To Deal If You Hate The Holidays

I see you over there in the corner, rolling your eyes and wishing for it to be New Year’s already. Maybe you’re not a fan of the holidays or maybe you’re just not feeling any Christmas cheer this year. Maybe no one told you this, but it’s okay.

I was just like you last year. I wanted nothing to do with the holidays and the sooner it was over, the better. I didn’t want to be reminded of the hellish year that I had – I just wanted to put away the decorations and hide under my covers. It was the first time I had ever felt that way around Christmas and while it depressed me that I just couldn’t snap out of my funk, I saw it affecting the people around me as well. It was all around uncomfortable.

If you’re going through a rough patch this year, don’t sweat it. Here are a few tips on how to deal:

Face all of it head on.

You won’t move on or be fully freed from your pain if you don’t face all of it head on.

Cry.

This is so important. Get in bed, pull up the covers and cry your eyes out until you drain yourself. It works. Trust me.

Remember that time heals everything.

It’s only a matter of time before things start looking up again. Life comes and goes in phases and you can get through whatever comes your way. Remember that this won’t be an issue a year from now.

Remember that it’s okay to need alone time.

The holidays are a constant social ambush. No matter if you’re an introvert or extrovert, I think we can all agree that everyone needs their alone time to de-stress and relax. Don’t feel like you need to apologize for taking care of yourself.

Start the new year off with a clean slate.
