Review: Bridgit Mendler – ‘Nemesis’

When we first got a taste of Bridgit Mendler’s singing chops on her 2012 debut, Hello, My Name Is…, the world had heard nothing yet. From Disney pop princess to her transition to a full-blown bonafide artist, Mendler has epically carved her name into the music world with new four-track EP, Nemesis, out today! A collection of infectiously-crafted pop/R&B gems that will have fans craving a full-length, Nemesis is Mendler’s story of love lost and newfound strength during a rather crucial period of life.

Opening with instant summer hit, “Atlantis” featuring rapper Kaiydo, we’re given a glimpse into the power of goodbye during a rather painful breakup as the singer tries to find her way through the madness as beat upon glorious beat takes over your headspace. The first time I heard this one, I had no idea how relevant it would be to my life but that’s the beauty of music, folks!

“Library” is a soft-spoken acousticy dream with an undeniable Lauryn Hill vibe that builds up into EP highlight, “Do You Miss Me At All.” If the Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu comparisons don’t hit you right away, check yourself. Dark, evocative and telling, this one is going to be huge once Top 40 gets a taste.

Ending our short journey on a high note is the pounding anthem of “Snap My Fingers” – a clear sign that this is only the beginning for Mendler. Bring on the jams!

Nemesis is available now here.
