10 Things You Didn’t Know About Dawson’s Creek

All the ’80s babies out there grew up watching Dawson, Joey, Pacey, and Jen on the much-loved and very much absurd television show, Dawson’s Creek. From affairs with teachers to high school love triangles and really long, SAT-vocabulary ridden dialogue, Dawson’s Creek was a total hit. For all you Creek lovers out there, here are 10 things you probably didn’t know about the series that brought us some major stars!

1. Over 500 actors auditioned for the role of Dawson beforeJames Van Der Beek was cast.

2. Katie Holmes (aka stunning girl next door Joey Potter) is the only character to appear in all 128 episodes of the show.

3. Dawson’s Creek was filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, the same town where One Tree Hill was filmed. That was super convenient for Chad Michael Murray who appeared in both shows simultaneously.

4. Joshua Jackson directed episode 19 of season six. It’s the episode where Audrey comes back from rehab and makes amends.

5. The original song choice for the series was Alanis Morrisette‘s “Hand In My Pocket,” but the song was too expensive. They went with Paula Cole‘s “I Don’t Want To Wait” instead.

6. The show was originally supposed to air on FOX as opposed to The WB.

7. Meredith Monroe was 29-years-old when she was cast to play 16-year-old Andie McPhee.

8. Dawson’s dad, played by John Wesley Shipp, was killed off after behind-the-scenes contract negotiations went sour. He wanted more money than the WB was willing to offer, so Mitch Leary was killed off in a car crash caused by a pesky ice cream cone. #RIP #Donoteaticecreamanddrive

9. Jason Biggs auditioned for the role of Pacey Witter. Can you imagine the series without Joshua Jackson? #lame

10. Before being cast as Joey Potter, Katie Holmes only had two credits to her acting career – The Ice Storm and Disturbing Behavior. Look at her now!
