The Busy Girl’s Guide To Smart Snacking

Maybe you’re the on-the-go type who never has time to get a real meal so you resort to whatever is easiest. Or maybe you’re like me and literally can’t say “no” to sweets when the desire strikes (I’m literally eating a cookie as I write this story). The good thing is, you don’t have to say it anymore. There are amazingly-good tasting options out there, believe it or not, that are healthy. Now, I know that some of you hear the word “healthy” and run, assuming whatever associated with the word will taste like cardboard or a scary-kale-vitamin concoction. Well, listen up—healthy doesn’t have to mean tasteless anymore. These snacks will completely change your view of “healthy” and have you reaching for them the next time a craving strikes.

HYDRATE RIGHT

First things first. If you’re not drinking enough water throughout the day, you’ll feel hungrier, not to mention the slew of other problems dehydration can cause. Make sure you’re drink the eight 8 oz. glasses a day at least, to keep yourself moving and feeling good. Not a water fan? Add fruit or herbs. Strawberries or cucumbers make water more friendly and you have a hydrating snack afterwards. Mint and Lemon balm make water more refreshing.

FOR THE GLUTEN-FREE SNACKER

As a GF foodie, I know how challenging it can be to find options that actually taste good. Glutino is making sure that is never a problem again. This is one of my favorite brands for a number of reasons. From salty Pretzels to Cookies, Baking Flours and Toaster Pastries, they’ve got you covered. If you’re a big salty and sweet snacker like myself, you’ll love their Crackers and Milk Chocolate Wafers. Their Sandwich Cookies are a cleaner, and honestly a more delicious version of the Oreo cookie (deciding by my tastebuds) and these Chocolate Wafers taste like a bigger, better Kit Kat. Trust me on this! Check out their product page and swap out your pantry with some good-for-you goodies from Glutino.

FOR THE I-NEVER-HAVE-TIME-TO-GET-A-REAL-MEAL PERSON

For some, the idea of breakfast or a lunch break is a funny one, with today’s crazy schedules and deadlines. Clif Bar has made it easier for you with their varieity of nutritious on-the-go snack and meal bars. Grab a Builder’s Bar if you need more of a meal replacement.

FOR THE GUMMY LOVER

Who doesn’t love gummys? I’m pretty sure it’s the one sweet we can all agree on. However, the ingredients of regular bears are pretty frightening—corn syrup, gelatin, sugar, glucose syrup, starch, flavoring, food coloring, citric acid. What is “flavoring”? And don’t even get me started on corn syrup! The good thing is, there are healthier ways to make the same exact bears, which you can make at home via Little Peanut Mag.

FOR THE SUGAR-CONSCIOUS EATER

I have been eating Thin Thin bars for years. One day I was in the store when I saw these. I bought a few because I never say no to peanut butter and chocolate together. Their High Protein Bars contain 20g of protein, 0g of sugar, are gluten free and kosher. I honestly buy these every time I’m in the store, in this flavor, because they’re so good that I literally have never been sick of them!

FOR THE PEANUT BUTTER GOBLIN

I once heard someone say they hated peanut butter. I never talked to that person again (jk….maybe). Justin’s is an all-natural company that produces, hands down, the best peanut and almond butters I’ve ever tasted. If you find yourself wanting sweets, opting for a couple spoonfuls of their almond butter is a great option. Their Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter cups absolutely smash Reese’s (and that’s coming from a fan). They add sea salt to the cups which completely changes the whole game. I keep one their travel-friendly packets on me when out and about, for a portable, delicious snack, anytime. Bottom line, don’t wait any longer and thank me later.

FOR THE SUPERFOOD LOVER

I’ve been a fan of Amazing Grass products for years because I struggle with getting my “greens” (or lets be honest, anything besides coffee and carbs) in everyday, so I usually have to get it in smoothie or drink form. The company has made it even easier to get your daily essentials in now by putting their Superfood powders into portable (and yummy) bars! Now, before you go thinking this is chococlate covered carrot or peanut butter dipper kale leaves, hear me out: These are ridiculous good. My favorite is the Coconut Chocolate Chip. You can somewhat see the Superfood powder in the bar, but taste wise, I believe even kiddos would love these (and not know what they’re eating).
