Artist To Buzz About Winter ’15: Kiesza

Canadian singer/songwriter, Kiesza, (pronounced kye-za) caught my attention recently with her impeccably choreographed music video for “Hideaway,” which features my own stomping grounds here in Brooklyn. Right away, I was transported back to my childhood when I would listen to the radio for hours and take in all of the dance music of the early 90’s. It was only a matter of time before 90’s dance made a comeback and Kiesza is the queen of the resurgence.

The singer just released her debut album, Sound of a Woman, which features a healthy array of electropop, power ballads and of course, late 80’s/early 90’s pop. The singer even covers the 1993 Haddaway hit, “What Is Love,” (A Night at The Roxbury, anyone?) turning the club hit into a seductive piano ballad. Ballad or not, I’m sure Steve and Doug Butabi would still bob their heads to it.
