Among her works are Still Life, Portrait and Landscape seen through a Pop Oniric vision that characterize much of her photography, where kaleidoscopic images and enchanted microcosms are elements that affect and stimulate the subconscious of the viewer. She currently lives and works in Naples immersed in a world of candies, little monsters, and toys.

Cristina’s work has been published on Vogue Italia website, Panorama, L’ Espresso Napoletano, and exhibited across Europe and in the USA.– via cristinaburns.com

When you were growing up, did you know that you were going to become a photographer?

It all started little by little, the first shots were just a way to capture moments. The approach to artistic photography came in an adult age, I was looking for a medium that could physically fix visions, dreams and nightmares that followed me right from childhood.

Your project “Through The Mirror” is unique. What inspired you to created them?

I have always been inspired by toys, sweets, skulls and objects belonging to the “kawaii world”. I use photography as a way to capture my creepy cute surrealistic compositions, that I like to define like candy coated nightmares, assemblages that reminds me the old cabinet of curiosities, which in my imagination are transformed into small enchanted worlds, in my series Through the Mirror there are always sweet and macabre elements, that together form a strangely cohesive narrative, meticulously arranged in symmetrical geometries that evoke the supernatural, in an atmosphere of sweet decadence.

How would you define the concept of “photographer”?

If we talk about artistic photography for me a photographer is a person who does not use the camera as an extension of his own eye, but through this medium he also draws on his own heart, his visions and sensations, and captures not only what is seen but try to fix the invisible on the photographic support.

Your artwork “Meow” is at the Catastrophe art show at the F+ plus gallery in Santa Ana( California). What does it mean for you?

I am very happy with this exhibition, it’s my first show overseas and I have American origins. I am pleased that my work “Meow” is there.

What inspired you to create video to “Electro-City”?

Electro – City is a project that wants to represent the relationship between the man and the lights in the consumer society, an invasive “bombing” but often fascinating.

Do you have any hobbies

Yes, I love collecting objects, stamps, toys, video games, playing the electric guitar and go to street markets.

What are your plans for the rest of the year?

Experimenting with new techniques and media looking through the lens, the gateway to the wonderland.

Thank you so much for this interview. Do you have a message for your fans and readers?

Thank you all for the support that I receive each day, a heartfelt greeting.
