Song Of The Day: “A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay

When I first heard Coldplay‘s “A Sky Full of Stars,” not only was I surprised of the band’s sound change, but I was overcome with a feeling of absolute bliss. There are some songs that you wish you had written yourself, and this is one of them.

I finally got around to listening to Coldplay’s newest album, Ghost Stories, and despite what critics have been saying about them lately, they really cannot go wrong. I’ll admit, I was even one of those critics. After learning that Avicii produced the EDM-tinged “A Sky Full of Stars,” I was a bit hesitant to give the album a listen, afraid that they had fallen under the spell of commercialized EDM (honestly guys, there’s really nothing that turns me off more than Top 40 EDM. I know that sounds incredibly hipster, but it’s true). Fortunately, I was proved wrong and the album has been on repeat!

To be perfectly honest, I could care less who produced this album – it could have been Big Bird for all I care. “A Sky Full of Stars” possesses everything a song should ignite in you: excitement, wonder and pure unadulterated bliss! It seems frontman Chris Martin feels the same way. Let’s all appreciate his super-awkward dance moves while performing this song on SNL. 😀
