From The Indie Vault: Larusso

Larusso – For fans of: Anberlin, Brand New, Paramore

Salt Lake City’s Larusso brought me back to a place I never wanted to revisit again: high school. Yet oddly enough, I am craving for more. Reminiscent of the alternative/punk I listened to in my teen years, Larusso proves that rock n’ roll is not dead and that music still means something.

There is nothing more admirable than musicians simultaneously releasing music all on their own, and Larusso have that notion covered. After having released six independently funded albums, they are getting ready to release their next, Life In Static, on August 15. Yes, you can do it yourself and yes, you can still tell your stories.

In new single, “The Voice,” I was able to relate it to my own youthful experiences as a teen – listening to everyone’s advice, casting out what I didn’t want to hear. “I might be stuck in yesterday, but at least I’m still awake.”

“The Voice” brings up the issues I think we all face in our youth. We’re scared, but we’re still holding on to hope. While I’m not the person I used to be, it’s nice to listen to a body of work that reminds me of how far I’ve come.
