Alright, Alright, Alright! Matthew McConaughey Inspiring Oscars Speech

If you watched the Oscars tonight, maybe you were as captivated by Matthew McConaughey‘s acceptance speech as I was.

McConaughey’s speech may have only lasted about 4 minutes long but it sure had me, and most of America, inspired. He went on to say that there are three things that he needs each day – something to look up to, something to look forward to, and someone to chase. God is the one he looks up to, his family is what he looks forward to, and that someone to chase is himself…in 10 years.

“…my hero is always 10 years away. I’m never gonna be my hero. I’m never gonna attain that…and that’s just fine with me because it keeps me with somebody to keep on chasing.”

He brings up a valid point: we hold the key to our success, no one else. Why not chase who we aspire to be rather than things that will only break us into pieces? Ten years ago, I was 15 and terrified. 25 seemed so far away and I never imagined I’d be the person that I am today. Who do I want to be at 35? I want to be fearless, strong, authentic and I want to be proud of everything I have accomplished. Will I be satisfied at 35? No clue, but every day is a new beginning to start pushing for who I want to be at 45. I never want to stop learning and by chasing our future selves, we are allowing the challenges of life to keep us on our toes.

Of course, McConaughey ended his thought-provoking speech with a much-anticipated “alright, alright, alright!” 😛

Who are you chasing and who do you aspire to be 10 years from now?
