Easy Valentine’s Treat: Quick Cake Pop Recipe

Last night around midnight, I decided to whip up a batch of my favorite sweet treats – cake pops! They’re super easy to make and are really awesome gifts for those of your friends with a sweet tooth.

To make cake pops you’ll need a couple things:

1 box of white cake mix1 can of frosting (canned works better than homemade for these)1 bag of sugar melts1 bag of popstickle sticks (optional. I didn’t bother to make them into a pop)

Directions:

Make your cake according to the directions on the box. Once the cake has cooked, let it cool completely. This is very important. If the cake is too warm, it will ruin your next step.

After the cake is cool, cut it up into chunks so you can fit the entire cake into a large mixing bowl. Use your hands to crumble the cake pieces until they’re a similar texture to wet sand.

Use a spoon to pour the frosting into the mixing bowl with the cake. Evenly kneed the frosting into the cake until it has a cookie dough like consistency. Do not add too much frosting or the cake will be too sweet.

Once the frosting is completely mixed into the cake crumbles, use your hands to roll the cake into tiny golf ball sized balls. Insert popsicle sticks into the cake balls.

Microwave the candy melts in a small bowl according to the packages directions. Dip the cake balls into the candy melts by holding the stick. If you didn’t use a stick you can just use a fork or spoon like I did. If your cake pops keep falling apart or off of the popsicle stick when you’re trying to dip them, consider refridgerating the pops for an hour (or even overnight) until they firm up.

After your pops are dipped, you can add sprinkles and other edible decorations before putting them on wax paper to dry.
