I Miss Those Days as the Years Go By

When you’re a child, you idolize grownups and teenagers. You lie in your bed every night, imagining how glamourous life as an adult or teenager will be, since you will be able to make your own decisions. You want time to fly by and so you can be an adult, already. Years later, you learn that the “glamourous” life of being older isn’t always perfect

If only I could go back in time and tell young Katelyn to savor the simple times. To enjoy every moment of being cared for by your parents. To realize that what seemd like a huge problem at the time isn’t anything compared to what you’ll face when your older. Love every moment of playing with toys and not having a care in the world. Appreciate the full eight hours of sleep I recieve each night. Reminding yourself that even though it seems your parents are against you, they really only want the best for you.

Looking back, I cherish those simplistic childhood memories that I could never fully comprehend until I was older. I wish I could go back to those simple days for any amount of time. Restoring that innocence a child has. Not knowing the sometimes hurtful and hard times that lay ahead of them. Having only the thought that the world is there’s to take over and change.

Why not still have that child like mentality? Thinking that I will kick the butt of any hard time that comes my way. Believing that anything I want will be mine. Of course you learn that life isn’t always that easy. When you feel like there’s no hope in you career, relationships, or just life in generall, remember that happy, optimistic spirit you had as a child.

I feel as though I still have the spirit of a child very present in my personality and I love it. Never believe that you have to leave that wonderful, child-like, carefree feeling behind because society says it’s “unrealalistic” or “immatrue”. You’ll find that some of the happiest people are the ones that held on to that childlike spirit.

I’m happy to be older because I have discovered so much more about myself and life. Never think that you have to completely leave a happy part of your life behind and that you have to move on to the next stage with a completely fresh slate. Take all of your happy life experiences and learn something different from each one. Life might change, but you can always hold on to those memories. Truly appreciate the life and the memories you’re making now so you won’t look back one day, wishing you had truly taken advantage of the situations you were in. Even if life isn’t the best at the moment, try to make the best out of it and learn from those hard times. Like Bob Dylan said, “Take care of all your memories. For you cannot relive them”.

Every memory, good or bad, all works out for the best because it helps make you the person that you are now. Although I miss those more simple times, I’m happy to be excperiencing completely new situations and carry all those happy memories along with me.

XoXo,

Katelyn
