WATCH: Mora Mora Covers ‘Royals’ By Lorde

Dressed as unenthused salesmen, Los Angeles-based rock band Mora Mora filmed a compelling cover video for Lorde’s “Royals.” The video concept, a brainchild of keyboardist Leland Cox, is a true depiction of what it means to have a lifestyle that’s far from glamorous.

“I really like the idea of a deadpan reading of the song,” explained Cox. “Draws a nice contrast to the chorus energy.”

To build up the chorus, the video transitions into dramatic performance scenes lit by fluorescent lights. It’s a fun way to showcase how dynamic Mora Mora is live.

The band first performed this cover at the University of Southern California’s Welcome Back concert in August and fans loved it. “A bunch of people came up to us after and asked if we were gonna record it so we did,” said lead singer Matias Mora.

A friend of Mora’s showed him Lorde’s hit song a while back and thought it was really cool. “I love that it’s basically vocals and drums,” he said.
