Is Miley Cyrus Twerkifying A Broadway Classic?

Miley Cyrus‘ new record, Bangerz is coming out soon and it’s pretty much been all Miley everywhere recently. She’s at the top of the music charts, she’s naked in construction zones, she’s defiling a foam finger on stage. However, I think I can safely say that nobody expected Miley, 20, to bestow her particular brand of ‘tude onto historical French literature. But… it looks like that might be exactly what is happening. And when it comes to Miley, you can’t rule anything out.

So, in anticipation of her new album, Miley released the track listing. On the Deluxe version of Bangerz, Miley revealed a song by Pharrell called “On My Own.” Pharrell’s been like a mentor to the new Miley, so this is pretty standard.

But here’s where it gets interesting. A few months ago (around the time of the release of the award winning Les Miserables movie starring Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman) a clip leaked of Miley singing an acoustic version of Eponine’s heartbreaking song from the famous play, “On My Own.”

At the time, it sort of went unnoticed. Maybe Miley had auditioned for the film; Taylor Swift had apparently tried out for the role before it was given to Samantha Banks. Or, maybe Miss Cyrus had just been inspired by the resurgence in popularity of the musical. She had debuted “The Backyard Sessions,” a few acoustic performances of classic songs like Jeff Buckley‘s “Lilac Wine.”

So is this just a coincidence? Could Miley and Pharrell have just made a classic pop coming of age song that happens to have the same title as a song we know she recorded. Or is the duo about to potentially release the wildest cover song of all time? Les Miserables goes dub step? Check out all the evidence and decide for yourself. Either way, we’ll all know the truth when Bangerz is released in a few weeks!

What would you think of Miley covering this Broadway classic?
