Lorde’s ‘Royals’ Surpasses Alanis Morissette’s 18-Year Billboard Reign

Alanis Morissette’s record for the longest number one single on the alternative charts by a female has been taken over by the latest sensation, Lorde. I know that all of us have been into Lorde’s single, “Royals” for a while; but today according to Billboard.com, she has officially knocked out one of music’s most influential female musicians.

Oh, and she is 16. Wow.

Lorde’s “Royals” has been in the number one spot for 6 weeks, surpassing Morissette’s 1995 anthem “You Oughta Know” ‘s 5-week reign. “Royals” has had an impressive performance over the past month and there’s no doubt when Lorde’s highly anticipated debut album, Pure Heroine is released on September 27th — we can expect big numbers. #musicrules

Billboard was also kind enough to provide us with the other 10 tracks by our female rockers who are holding spots on the list.
