Swagger For Dummies

Lately I’ve been noticing how confused some people get when it comes to the term “swag.” I’m not a big fan of the term myself. I think it’s overused and more importantly, misused. I like to refer to the quote “Swag is for boys, class is for men” but not everyone seems to feel that way.

Some people think that the term “swagger” means they can be super arrogant but get away with it because they are dressed “in a classy way.” First of all, that doesn’t even make sense. There’s a way to do it right and let’s face it, it doesn’t involve peeing in a bucket. Just because a man is wearing a suit doesn’t mean he’s classy, and the same goes for women who get dressed up. Your actions speak louder than your attire. Here are a few examples of some classy gentlemen in today’s ‘swag’ obsessed culture. Take notes, boys! 😉

Justin Timberlake. Making the ladies swoon since 1997. He’s talented, kind, and a great husband to the lovely Jessica Biel. Now some may say he’s arrogant and I can see that he does give off that vibe sometimes, but I think he’s just really passionate about what he does. Underneath it all, you know that he really does mean well. Swag? Check!

Oliver Sim of The xx. He’s mysterious, super kind to his fans, beyond talented and his haunting vocals will send chills down your spine in the best way possible. He knows how to handle himself in the media and that is super sexy. Swag? Heck yes!

Honor Society / Jason Rosen of Smoke Season. They’re humble, super sweet, talented, and have a great sense of style. You just know they were raised the right way. I look at these guys and smile to myself knowing that there are good men left in this world. I always say that their band name suits them perfectly because they really are a group of honorable men. Swag? Without a doubt!

Jonas Brothers. They’re sweet, adorable, talented and one of them is happily (and adorably) married. Sure they may have had some very public ups and downs that was vastly covered in the media but that doesn’t stop them from learning and becoming great men. Swag? Yes!

Beau Bokan of Blessthefall. He’s married to LIGHTS, doesn’t smoke, drink or do drugs, talented, and funny. All of that brings his level of class up super high since it’s hard to find musicians like him out there. Swag? Definitely!

I was going to give examples of what not to consider as ‘swagger’ but I honestly don’t want to offend anyone. Plus, there’s always the possibility of them changing for the better. However, if you’re still interested, you know where to find me. 😉
