Lyrics Rule: Paramore’s ‘Last Hope’

Keep your eyes down, and the volume up.

There are days you just want to put on your headphones, close the door to your room and soak in music. Listen to a story paired with a nice melody you can hum along to and later turn to when you need it. There are lyrics you want to write all over your notebooks, your walls — or even your body. Sometimes a complete stranger can string together a few simple thoughts that speak to you louder than the person in the next room. And sometimes someone’s struggle can be so universal that you feel less alone. We all have those certain songs we turn to, and at different stages in our lives. You might lose connection to a song as your grow older or you might revisit an old album and finally hear what you had missed years before. It’s part of what makes music timeless and what we, as music fans, can say creates our own individual relationship with music. It doesn’t matter if your friends think a song is lame or that a band is bad; it’s your relationship. It’s personal to you.

Anyway, I wanted to share some of my thoughts on a song that’s special to me; Paramore’s ‘Last Hope.” I touched on the song earlier in the year when the album came out, but in case you missed the song or haven’t given it any attention against the rest of the album, I beg you to go back. The lesson of patients and perseverance is one we all need to master. And the sooner, the better. Growing up never ends and the ability to sit back and be patient while still believing in yourself is an asset. Growing up is hard but you just have to believe in yourself and your convictions.

To be honest, there are plenty of days I doubt myself; it’s a process. If you haven’t had to experience this growing pain yet, Hayley Williams is giving you a head start on a valuable life lesson. I would give anything to hear this song live for the Self-Titled Tour. #musicrules

Here are the lyrics of the song taken directly from Paramore.net – and a gallery of some fan art made with the lyrics.

I wish I could write these lyrics all over my bedroom wall.

v1

i don’t even know myself at all and i thought i would be happy (by now) but the more i try to push it i realize gotta let go of control

gotta let it happen let it happen gotta let it happen let it happen

v2

every night i try my best to dream tomorrow makes it better wake up to the cold reality that not a thing is changed but it will happen gotta let it happen let it happen let it happen

ch

it’s just a spark but it’s enough to keep me going and when it’s dark out no one’s around it keeps glowing

brdg

and the salt in these wounds isn’t burning any more than it used to

it’s not that i don’t feel the pain I’m just not afraid of hurting anymore

all the blood in these veins isn’t pumping any less than it ever has and that’s the hope i have the only thing that i know’s keeping me alive

GOTTA LET IT HAPPEN

ch

it’s just a spark but it’s enough to keep me going and when it’s dark out no one’s around

it keeps glowing
