Katelyn’s Book Shelf: Bossypants by Tina Fey

For me, there is nothing better than reading a good book! I always find lots of time to read while flying, waiting in a waiting room, or when I have nothing else to do. A book I thoroughly enjoyed reading was Bossypants by Tina Fey! I also talked about this book being my favorite read of the month in my July Favorites blog! I picked up this book thinking it would be a good, funny, read ,but it ended up being so much more then that! If you are looking for a hilarious auto biography about a strong woman in the business world, then I strongly suggest this book to you! Now, I will break down why I loved Bossypants by Tina Fey so much!

Most people know Tina Fey as being on Saturday Night Live and as being in hit comedies such as Baby Mama and Mean Girls, which she also wrote the screenplay for! In this auto- biography, Tina starts off her life story when she was a kid, then takes you on her life journey of becoming a comedian, actress, and writer, while adding in hilarous jokes! This book will have you laughing and smiling the whole time!

Tina really comes across as being a very strong female and a great role model for any woman. Through her story, you see how Tina really worked her way to the top without sacrificing who she is along the way. Tina really shows how much of a well rounded woman she is by balancing her work and family. She also proves not to be a pushover or easily persuaded. I think the book was tittled ‘Bossypants’ for that very reason. Sometimes Tina had to keep pushing her idea to get her point across.

There were also many quotable lines in this book about beauty, being yourself, taking chances, and much more. One of my favorite quotes in the book is when Tina was talking about beauty and what it is considered to be today. She had a very funny, truthful, approach to beauty by saying“Every girl is expected to have caucasian blue eyes, full Spanish lips, a classic button nose, hairless Asian skin with a California tan, a Jamaican dance hall butt, long Swedish legs, small Japanese feet, the abs of a lesbian gym owner, the hips of a nine-year-old boy, the arms of Michelle Obama and doll boobs. The person closest to actually achieving this look is Kim Kardashian, who, as we know, was made by Russian scientists to sabotage our athletes. Everyone else is struggling.” Another quote I loved is how she compared taking chances to a kid going down a waterslide by saying “You can’t be that kid standing at the top of the waterslide overthinking it. You have to go down the chute”. There are so many other quotable moments that really stuck with me and thaught me a life lesson in a hilarious way.

One aspect about this book that made the story never become boring and flat was the book.s structure. I thought the order of the story was perfect, from beginning to end, by going a little out of order chronologically. A cherry on top for me was how she added so many pictures to the book to really help give you a mental image of what she was describing, Not to give anything away, but the ending of the story was so perfect and heart felt!

As you can seee from those quotes, this book is truly hilarious. Before reading it, I thought it would be funny ,but I never thought it would make me laugh out loud as many times as it did. Tina did a fantastic job of combining comedy + life lessons + writing into one great book! After seeing me rave so much about this book, it is no supprise that I have given the book 5 out of 5 stars.

If you are someone looking for a hilarious auto biography, go pick up this book now, because I highly recommend it! Hope you enjoyed this review!

XoXo,

Katelyn
