Artist Spotlight: Monks Of Mellonwah

Monks Of Mellonwah – For fans of: Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, The Black Keys

In today’s Artist Spotlight, we dive into the grittiness that is Sydney’s Monks of Mellonwah. Upon first hearing the band, I immediately thought Brandon Boyd of Incubus was cloned and somehow created another band. As I researched further, I was taken aback by their success and decided that this is one band the world needs to know without false pretenses. With that being said, let’s take a closer look at Monks Of Mellonwah.

Monks Of Mellonwah are an alternative/progressive rock band from Sydney, Australia, consisting of Vikram Kaushik (vocals), Joe de la Hoyde (backing vocals/guitar), John de la Hoyde (bass), and Josh Baissari (drums.) They are currently releasing their new album, Turn The People, in three parts with Ghost Stories being the first volume. They are a part of A&R Worldwide (Muse, Adele) and have won numerous awards such as ‘Best International Rock Band’ at the LA Music Awards and ‘Best Indie Rock Band’ at the 2012 AIM Awards.

Influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, they’ve managed to keep the spirit of those classic bands alive while adding a kick of their own heavy riffs and sharp metaphors. Add in a bit of good ol’ 90’s nostalgia and you’ve got yourself a band worth watching. While watching their video for “Ghost Stories,” I was immediately brought back to my teen years watching MTV and Fuse.

Take a listen to Ghost Stories below. You can pick up a copy here and here.
