Exclusive Interview: Kyle Pavone Of We Came As Romans Shares Side Project SECOYA!

Hey Music Lovers,

I have some awesome new music for you to check out! It is Kyle Pavone of We Came As Romans electronic side project called SECOYA.

Check out the music on Secoya’s soundcloud HERE and be sure to add Secoya on Facebook HERE!

How does this side project differ to you than being in We Came As Romans?

KP: I’ve always been attached to the electronic sounds in music. I played keys early on in WCAR and did drum machines and what not. Since along time ago I’ve been writing music on different programs. Secoya is the project I’m really pushing to show people what I do on my off time away from the band.

You have been into this style of music for a while now, when did your first start making your own music?

KP: Like I said before, I’ve had a love for the sound of electronics and synths since I was young. I attended my first DEMF (Detroit Electronic MusicFestival) or “movement” as they call it now. I instantly fell in love with the atmosphere and unity through the music. I guess you could say it was love at first sight. I started making beats on my house computer around 8th grade using a program called Fruity Loops. I used to use the beats to sing over and make a pop techno kind of vibe.

Describe your sound in three words

KP: Fun, Energetic, Booty shakin 😉

Who has been your biggest influence throughout your music career?

KP: There are so many talented artist/producers out there that have influenced me, but if I had to list a couple I’d have to say Bassnectar. His groovy urban outlook on the bass generation has made a huge impact on my music. Another would be Pendulum. Pendulum’s desire to make heavymusic so easy to listen to, their pure melody and energy mixed with the fast beat of drum & bass is intoxicating.

How do you feel you stand out amongst other artists in your genre?

KP: I really stick to what I know and try and write music that is easy to listen to and heavy at the same time. A perfect balance, also I don’t try and stick to one particular genre. I jump around whether it’s drum & bass, Dub Step or even Tech House sometimes.

If you could put together your dream tour for Secoya who would be on it?

KP: Ahhhh a dream tour! If I kept it simple I would say..Dub Phizix, Secoya, Dirty Phonics Knife Party, Bassnectar and Pendulum to headline!

What is one song you’ve heard so far in 2013 that you wish you wrote?

KP: “LRAD” -Knife Party or “Ghosts”- Funtcase

What are your main goals musically for 2013?

KP: I just released the first EP for Secoya called the ‘World Champ EP‘ and will be releasing a remix collection of the EP featuring some amazing artists and friends. The second EP is already in the works 🙂 the release date for the second EP is late August/ early September. For the rest of 2013 I’ll be booking some shows around the United States when I’m off tour with We Came As Romans.

What is the best advice you can give someone trying to follow in your footsteps?

KP: Don’t get frustrated, continue to work as hard as you can. I also cannot stress this enough… finish your tracks. A great friend of mine once told me you can sit and nit pick and try and create the perfect mix, but you can only learn from your mistakes by putting them out! Be proud of what you made and keep writing!

Any last words for your fans and the readers?

KP: Whether you are a fan of electronic music or not, give new music a chance! Remember how you got into your favorite genre? You gave it a chance… try giving everything a chance before basing your judgement. Who knows, what you listen to might end up being your

favorite!

Now that you heard the music and read the interview, what do you think?!
