Fashion Week 2013 Ivana Helsinki Show

The Fashion Week 2013 Ivana Helsinki collection by Helsinki-born modern designer Paola Suhonen was shown at Studio 450. Fresh-faced models sporting high ballerina buns trotted down the bright runway in Slavic-Scandinavian inspired pieces featuring bright colors, minimalist accents and denim. The quirky soundtrack matched the tone of the collection; it even included my favorite The Doors song. The “Rotterdam” collection was fresh, bold, and playful, and included floral and striped dresses, jewel toned color-blocking, and impressive woven details on sleeves.

I spoke to the pixie-like designer backstage afterwards, and she told me that the collection was very much inspired by “drunken sailors” and sailors lost at sea and stuck in the ice glaciers.
