Emma Roberts Snags The Lead In New FOX Pilot, ‘Delirium’

It’s official, bookworms! FOX has adapted the New York Times bestselling series Delirum by Lauren Oliver to the small screen!

It was announced today that Emma Roberts has been cast as lead heroine, Lena Holoway, for the show’s pilot. The books take place in an alternative present-day Maine when civilization has been partly destroyed by war and a totalitarian government teaches that love is literally a disease which they call the delirium. There’s a surgical cure for the delirium that’s mandatory for citizens 18 and older. Lena Holoway is awaiting the cure but things change once she meets a boy from the Wilds, Alex Sheathes, who has not been cured. Together they forge their own path trying to decide just how much the government should control in one persons life while Lena starts to question everything she’s ever known and told to believe. Was everything a lie?

The series, which has spawned three books, Delirium, Pandemonium and Requiem (out March 5th) has been compared to Twilight and The Hunger Games. If you’re fans of both of those series, you should definitely tune in to Delirium when it airs on FOX!

No word yet on who will play Lena’s best friend Hanna or love interest/partner-in-crime Alex. The suspense is too much!

Who do you think should play Alex? Are you excited for Delirium to hit the small screen?
