5 Tips for Keeping Your News Year’s Resolutions This Coming Year
It’s almost that time of the year again: New Year’s! With 2013 just around the corner, many people have a few resolutions they would like to accomplish and keep consistent with in 2013. With life being so busy and hectic, it can be hard to actually keep your New Year’s resolutions. Here are a few simple tips to keep you motivated in keeping your New Year’s resolutions:
1. Set Yourself Reminders
When wanting to accomplish a New Year’s resolution, setting reminders for yourself is key! Setting reminders helps keep you motivated and mindful about your resolutions. A good way to remind yourself is by writing your resolutions down on sticky notes and sticking them to places in clear view, like your computer monitor, mirror, car dashboard, etc. Also set a daily reminder on your phone. By doing this you will be less likely to break your resolutions.
2. Meditate on It
One way to stay motivated when keeping a New Year’s resolution is by meditating on it. To meditate on your resolutions, set aside 5 to 15 minutes a day in a quiet place. When meditating and thinking about your resolutions, envision what life would be like once you have achieved your resolutions and how happy you would be. Also think about choices and steps you could make that would help you achieve your resolutions. By meditating on it, this will give you someting to look forward to and will leave you wanting to achieve your resolution even more!
3. Be Clear
By being clear on what you want to achieve when it comes to setting resolutions, this gives you a motive and a reasonable time frame to accomplish them. The more details you give when setting a resolution, the easier it will be to achieve your goal. For example, setting a resolution like “I want to exercise more this year” is very hard to stick with when you have no objective. Instead, dig deeper into the resolution and set goals such as “I will run a mile every day.” Being clear on what you want to achieve is guaranteed to make it easier to stick with your resolution.
4. Tell Friends and Family
It might not seem like it, but your friends and family can really help when it comes to achieving your New Year’s resolutions. By telling friends and family, they can help encourage you, remind you daily and protect you from potential setbacks. Also, you will most likely try harder to achieve your resolution since you won’t want to disapoint your friends and family.
5. Make Time
To achieve your New Year’s resolution, you will need to work on achieving it every day. To work on achieving your resolution every day, you will need to set aside time solely for that purpose. Some of you are probably thinking, “But I have no time, I am already busy enough as is!” If this is the case, examine your daily schedule and look for small activities you can cut out of your life to make more time. There are many activities you can cut out, whether it’s watching your favorite TV show, getting on social networking sites, etc. Remember, if you really want to achieve something, you will have to be willing to take time out of your life to do it.
