5 Reasons To Love Never Shout Never’s ‘Indigo’
Never Shout Never is back with new tunes! Ever since the band released its song “Magic” back in September, I’ve been patiently waiting for their new album in its entirety. Indigo doesn’t officially release until tomorrow, but PureVolume is exclusively streaming it today!
Indigo is an album that reflects front man Christofer Drew‘s journey to become “emotionally, spiritually and physically healthy,” according to his interview with Billboard.com.
So why do I think you’ll love Indigo? Here are 5 reasons:
1. Time travel
There aren’t any songs about time-traveling DeLoreans or the space-time continuum. BUT the band has blended their indie-pop sound with a retro vibe that is reminiscent of the late ’60s and early ’70s. Each song on this album has a dream-like quality and a few sway to the old swing of rock n’ roll. The guitar in “Magic” slightly reminds me of the psychedelic days of The Beatles.
2. “Between Two Worlds”
This is my favorite song from the album. Christofer starts it off with the words “I feel fine” and it’s so sincere that I believe him. “Between Two Worlds” shows the struggle of letting go of the past and moving on. Along with the relatable theme of the tune, the busy drum beat is what catches my attention because of its groove.
3. Christofer is a modern day crooner
With such a calm and romantic voice, Christofer is the kind of guy you want serenading you from outside your window. You can’t forget that he’s also an awesome songwriter, especially when it’s about love. Listen to “All Mine” if you’re in the mood to fall in love.
4. Great trio of musicians
Let’s talk about the other two-thirds of Never Shout Never. I’m intrigued by Taylor MacFee (bass, vocals) and Hayden Kaiser (drums, guitar, vocals). In this album, Taylor whips out solid bass parts, including a blues progression in “California Slang,” and Hayden does a fantastic job of moving the songs in the right direction.
5. “Hazel Eyez”
The simplicity of “Hazel Eyez” is beautiful. The harmonies are silky and the buildup is enticing. I said “Between Two Worlds” was my favorite, but this one gives it a run for its money.
