WATCH: Bloc Party Premiere New Video For ‘Kettling’
Similarly to the recently released video for Pure Love‘s ‘Riot Song‘, Bloc Party‘s ‘Kettling‘ illustrates a theme of civil unrest through the use of children. However, don’t be under the assumption that the British bands’ songs share the same theme. Somewhat surprisingly, Bloc Party’s new single is about the riots which occurred in their home country last Summer.
Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, front-man Kele Okereke clarified the song’s inspiration: “Everyone thinks that song is about the London riots, and it is partially, but I was living in New York at the time”. Continuing, Okereke said “‘Kettling’ is more about the idea of protest than it is about the idea of rioting. I think more of the American Occupy movement than the rioters; I think the act of protesting is a very beautiful, idealistic thing and completely necessary in terms of the changing of power.”

The new single ‘Kettling’ is out November 12th, and is taken from the new album ‘Four’ available now.
