The Ready Set’s Cameron Walker Unleashes New Band

After taking his guitar skills on the road with the Ready Set tour earlier this fall, Cameron Walker has announced new projects of his own! The former Weatherstar frontman will be directing his focus on pop quartet 1985, as well as brand new side Brothers with real life brother Julian. Buzznet got the scoop on what’s up with Cameron’s newest ventures and what it’s like touring with the Ready Set.

Buzznet: Cameron, can you tell us how you got involved with music?

Cameron Walker: In 2009 I started the band Weatherstar which lead to a lot of touring and the start of my musical career as a singer/songwriter. These days I’m try to stay as busy as possible. I love touring and being on the road but I feel most at home in a studio or in my room with an acoustic guitar and a pen and paper. I’m working on a few different projects at the moment all of which I’m really exited about.

BN: One of your projects is with your younger brother Julian…aptly named Brothers. How did that come to be?

CW: Brothers is sort of an extension of what I was doing in Weatherstar. My younger brother Julian is insanely talented and had been playing guitar for Weatherstar for some time. When I started working on new music he was there writing with me 100% of the time. I really wanted to be in a band where we were represented as equals since he’s such a crucial member not to mention my best friend. As the musical direction shifted to a more organic sound I took this as a opportunity to change things up and keep things fresh.

BN: Can you tell us about the first single, “12 Degrees?”

CW: I wrote 12 Degrees about my ex-girlfriend. We were in an 8 year long relationship that took some crazy turns and I definitely wasn’t ready for it. The last few years were really emotionally draining for me and this song pretty much sums it all up. The feeling of losing some one who you loved more than anything, the cold nights alone in your room – wondering how two hearts that seemed inseparable could suddenly beat so out of sync. The fact that we never really had any closure was tearing me apart and I felt really confused. The only thing I could do was write. 12 Degrees was my way of saying I will always love you but goodbye.

BN: Your other project, 1985, had coverage on ABC and ESPN during the Little League World Series. What was it like to be apart of this experience?

CW: The ESPN/ABC stuff was an incredible experience that I’m very grateful for. 1985 landed an initial song placement on ESPN with our song “On My Way.” They said they were into our sound and asked us to record a version of a theme song that was written for The Little League World Series and was to be released on Disney/Hollywood Records. The other singer/co-founder/songwriter in the band Tom DeGrazia is an incredibly talented producer and I think we really did the song justice. After we recorded the song we went out to the LLWS field and shot video clips which aired throughout the series along with our version of “Summer Forever.” The whole thing was a blast and I would like to take this time to publicly thank everyone involved who made it possible for us. The single “Summer Forever” and our self titled EP are both currently available on iTunes.

BN: You’re just wrapped up a tour with The Ready Set. Anything you’d like to share about that?

CW: Jordan is one of the most generous, giving people I know and when he gave me the opportunity to join his touring line up as his bassist/backup vocalist I couldn’t turn it down. We were out with Boys Like Girls and The All American Rejects and it has by far been the best tour I’ve ever been a part of. Jordan, Travis and Deryck are all incredible musicians and we have a lot of fun on stage. All of the other bands are really nice and there’s good vibes all around!

BN: What can we expect from you over the rest of 2012 and going into 2013 with Brothers and 1985?

CW: You can expect another EP from 1985. A debut release from Brothers and more of me on the road with The Ready Set. I’m in a really good place right now and I’m honestly equally exited for all of these projects and I can’t wait to see what the future brings.

Sounds like Cameron has got his plate full! Check out 1985’s most recent song “A Beautiful Life” below (you just MIGHT be able to hear it in your local hollister too!)

What do you think of Cameron’s new projects? Did you see him on the Ready Set tour?
