Artist Spotlight: Get Scared

Reblogged from We’ve Got You Covered

Today our artist spotlight is shining bright on Utah bred 4-piece band Get Scared. John Braddock, Bradley Lloyd, Dan Juarez and Joel Faviere have mastered the art of producing catchy upbeat songs whlle still maintaining a heavy sound that we’re likening to bands like The Used and Black Veil Brides. The band is currently working on a new full-length album to follow up their 2011 ep release Built For Blame, Laced With Shame, and we can’t wait to hear the new music!

Buzznet was lucky enough to catch up with the band and Bradley talked about everything from the Utah music scene, to bringing on Joel as the new lead singer after the departure of former frontman, Nick Matthews. Oh and if you’re wondering where they get their musical inspiration, it’s all in the interview below! Check it out for all the deets and watch their video for “Sarcasm,” which couldn’t be more appropriate for Halloween time!

What’s the story behind your band name, Get Scared?

Lloyd: The name “Get Scared” is referring to getting out of your comfort zone. Doing something you’ve always dreamed to do, even if you are afraid of potentially failing. You can’t expect your goals and aspirations to come true, if you’re just going through life playing it safe.

What gets you scared?

Lloyd: Spiders! They are the bane of my existence.

As a band from Utah, what’s the music scene like there?

Lloyd: Surprisingly, awesome! There are so many talented musicians in Utah. Some of my favorite bands are from here. But as for the negative side, it can be a little snobby. People around here are very particular on what is “cool” and “uncool”. It’s kinda, for lack of a better word, “hipster” if you would.

With Joel Faviere as your new lead singer, has your lyric writing or music taken on a new direction?

Lloyd: I wouldn’t say new direction, but I would say that Get Scared is finally writing the music we’ve all wanted to write ever since the birth of this band. We weren’t able to do so until we got Joel. Which is so exciting to all of us!

In what ways has your band developed in the last year?

Lloyd: In this past year we’ve taken a step back to really focus on what we want Get Scared to be. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve always known. But it is easy to lose sight of what you stand for when you are touring and losing crucial members. As you can imagine, There were some hopeless nights. But I’m confident to say, Get Scared is the strongest it’s ever been. We are only going to get stronger and we are all so excited for our future plans to manifest themselves.

Describe the writing process for “Built For Blame, Laced With Shame.”

Lloyd: The writing process was incredible. Not only was it exciting because we had Joel Faviere on our side. We also had Erik Ron teaming up with us to produce, in my opinion the best Get Scared music to date. Erik Ron helped rebuild our fallen spirits after losing a very crucial member to our band. He gave us direction and hope again. We are endlessly grateful for him and what he has done for Get Scared.

What bands do you look up to?

Lloyd: Oh man, so many. Of course I look up to bands like, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The Who, etc. But as for bands that have been around more recently. Glassjaw, Refused, Korn, Limp Bizkit, The Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Gojira, Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, Blindside, Muse, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, Incubus, Blink 182, Green Day, NOFX, Slayer and so much more!

How has touring with Dead Rabbits and Rob the Cartel been?

Lloyd: It was a blast! Such fun people to be on the road with. We had nx laughs.

What can we expect from Get Scared next?

Lloyd: Much more touring than we have done previously. We are also working on a new full length record.
