Sasquatch! 2012 Recap: A Vision Quest

This past weekend I journeyed up to the Pacific Northwest (George, Washington, to be exact) to attend the famed Sasquatch! music festival. The festival took place at The Gorge, an incredibly beautiful natural landmark that made me feel like I wanted to quit life and move to a forest to be closer to nature, where I got to watch the likes of Jack White, Beirut, Bon Iver, and more play against the most gorgeous (get it? GORGE-ous! I’m sooooooooo funny) backdrop ever. It was definitely a bit different than any other festival I’ve been to, and I learned quite a bit about myself, others, and life (and I didn’t do drugs either, sicko).

Here are a few lessons I learned along the way:

1) When being listed for a festival by a musician whose manager is a rapper named Duke Da God (and a member of The Diplomats), expect for longer wait times than normal. A lot longer. Like, a day and a half longer.

2) People in the Pacific Northwest LOVE camping. I do not. They’re also really into puffy jackets, shells, and parkas. (It’s really cold up here – see #3).

3) Tents: freezing at night, sweltering hot at 7am. Awesome!

4) People at campsites like to blare Counting Crows at 4am for impromptu sing-a-longs. (I mean, I like “Mr. Jones” as much as the next guy, but come ON).

5) Reignwolf is INCREDIBLE and should be worshipped for the rock god that he is.

6) My bangs need regular maintenance in order to keep me from looking like Fozzy The Bear.

7) Zola Jesus is really nice.

8) Gardens and Villa is really good live.

9) Grouplove doesn’t know any jokes.

10) Some friends, even though they are from Boise, Idaho and live in Seattle and claim to be good at outdoorsy stuff, are in fact not.

Here are some photos to illustrate all of the above.
