Buzznet Exclusive: Getting To Know Renee Yohe

Some of you may know the name Renee Yohe as the inspiration behind the non-profit organization To Write Love On Her Arms, but she is also a talented singer/songwriter! She is currently on tour with Never Shout Never as BERCAT, and she took some time to answer some our burning questions.

Check out his performance she recently did for Vans Girls; and below find out what it’s like to tour with NSN and what music she listens to when she is having a bad day.

What song do you listen to when you are having a bad day?

I listen to a lot of different things, but most recently it’s been “Toothpaste Kisses” by The Macabees, in the past “Feel’n Groovy” by Simon and Garfunkel, and I can never go wrong listening to the Dodo’s “Park Song”.

What inspires your music? My experiences and this crazy little brain I’ve got.

What was the last concert you attended just as a fan? I wasn’t a fan at the start, but I recently saw a local band play in Orlando and they put on an incredible show… one I remember very vividly was several years ago when I saw Patrick Watson perform in California with my best friend… breathtaking.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music? Maybe they would walk away knowing me a little better, but for them personally… I would hope they would take my practice of changing my perspective and being gracious and gentle with myself as permission to do the same for their own hearts… that they would hear and see me being free and allow that same freedom within themselves.

What has been the best thing about touring with Never Shout Never? That’s hard; there’s been a lot of awesome things about it. It doesn’t hurt to play to a sold out show every night, that’s for damn sure. The fans have been incredibly welcoming and supportive of my music, not to mention the entire line up we have is full of really wonderful people and I’ve had a lot of fun getting to know everyone and having this really precious experience with them all.

What are three style tips you can share with your fans? I don’t know that I have any… I’d say there’s maybe two? Be yourself, and be shameless.

What is your most recent tattoo? Can you tell us about it? My most recent has been far to long ago, and that was the addition of a few butterflies on my forearm and the words, “Let go” on my hand. The butterflies are a bit personal aside from the obvious, but “Let go” is kind of self explanatory as well, basically it was just a reminder to myself that I’m not always in control and to have perspective and acceptance and just let go…. (;

BEACAT’s self-titled EP hits stores June 5th. You can also follow Renee on Facebook and keep up with her touring plans!
