10 Artists That Saved My Life: Bjork

I was 14 when I pretty much accidentally found out about Bjork. I had won a trip to St.Petersburg as a prize from some children’s singing competition and was over the moon about all the illegal CDs I could get fro $1 each. After buying 9 albums, I still had $1 left and I told the salesman to give me something good. He gave me the best of Bjork. I didn’t know what to think of it but I got it.

I got home and put on my headphones and as the first notes of Joga landed on my ears, something moved deep within me. There is no other artist who I admire and love as much as I love Bjork. I think “All is full of Love” is one of the most amazing songs ever written by a human being and there’s this quality about her music that is so honest and simple, yet its going places where most artists never go.

Visually, she loves to dress in crazy stuff but it never comes off like she’s trying too hard – just feels like it’s who she really is and an extension of the music.

Finding out about Bjork was like finding out about some rare and magical thing that I had never encountered living where I was living at the time, being surrounded by the people I was surrounded by.

Felt like coming home after traveling a million miles….<3
