Grammy Trail Off #9: Death Cab For Cutie’s ‘Codes And Keys’

Being in the running for Best Alternative Album might feel quite familiar to Death Cab For Cutie; their 2005 release, Plans, got a nod–but The White Stripes’ Get Behind Me Satan took it that year. This year the band’s Codes And Keys is up against the works of Bon Iver, Radiohead, Foster The People and My Morning Jacket.

But let us tumbledown the train track of facts, for fun.

-The band released the video for “Home is a Fire” on May 9. The video features street artist Shepard Fairey plastering lyrics from the song around Los Angeles.

-Shepard Fairey designed the artwork for The Smashing Pumpkins‘ album Zeitgeist

-The Smashing Pumpkins song “To Sheila” was used in the first season of The O.C.

-The O.C. featured several Death Cab For Cutie songs during its run, including “Soul Meets Body” and “The Sound of Settling.”

And here we are.
