The Best Of Fall 2012 Menswear

Menswear shows aren’t largely celebrated, but I for one love looking at all the collections. Menswear usually doesn’t push the boundaries in terms of design; it’s more style than fashion. Because of its emphasis on styling, menswear can be even sleeker and “cooler” than womenswear. Here are a few of my favorite Fall 2012 menswear shows:

1. Jil Sander. Raf Simons, as always, paid close attention to detail with his black leather trench coats, tailored suits, and leather paper bags, rolled at the top to carry.

2. If it wasn’t excessive, it wouldn’t be Versace. Donatella‘s latest collection included floral-printed jackets and pants (some in blue-green hues, creating a camo effect which some thought was a nod to the recent repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell), brightly-colored fur, and lots of denim.

3. Ann Demeulemeester is always a favorite, and this season did not disappoint. This menswear collection plays with proportions, elongating and streamlining many of the pieces to the point where they could be womenswear.
