10 Music Videos To Help Inspire Your Halloween Costume

Still haven’t decided what Halloween costume to wear? Have the extensive collection of inspiration galleries on BUZZNET not helped you to decide? Well fear not because like you, I’m still unsure about what I’ll be rocking on the 31st of October so I compiled a list of music videos which might help you make up your mind (or maybe just confuse you with even more ideas).

Lady Gaga – You & I

If you’re going as a pop star for Halloween, the chances are it’s probably Mother Monster. With Gaga, there are endless costume possibilities but if you want to keep to Halloween’s haunted roots you could go zombie boy style or maybe as a scary mermaid like above. If you’re thinking “How can I go from house to house trick of tweeting with a tail!?” then don’t worry, just get a wheelchair or Paparazzi-style crutches.

The Automatic – Monster

(N.B for entire video click here – embedding was disabled). Although a song about the ‘monster’ of substance abuse, the video takes a much more literal approach with a bit of cryptozoology. So if you’re willing to wear a furry yeti/big foot outfit then you’ve got your outfit sorted. However, if you think you might get a little hot in that, why not be less scary and be a monster hunter with your coloured polo neck and glasses…although you may look a little bit too like Scooby Doo’s Velma.

Fall Out Boy – A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More “Touch Me”

Do you dress as Buffy every Halloween? How about next time you be the bait. That’s the message this video gives … kinda. If you think being a vampire slayer is much more original than being an actual vampire, take inspiration from this clip. These fanged dudes don’t sparkle, they either wear combats, carry canes and dress like pimps or seduce Patrick Stump. (N.B Wearing this outfit will not allow you to seduce the actual Patrick Stump…although I don’t want to know what you do with that action figure of him though). However if you still think that being the hunter is cooler, make sure you get the hippest jacket and wave your phone around making sure it’s model, make and sell features can be seen by all.

McFly – Do Ya

No, I haven’t got the holidays wrong – I know that this a festive charity single but the video did feature some “mild gore” (as the parental warning exclaimed). There’s plenty of tinsel wearing zombies so if you’re feeling like Scrooge already and sooo prefer toffee apples to mince pies, why not do Christmas and Halloween all in one. Be careful though as you might end up on Santa’s naughty list!

The Ready Set – Love Like Woe

If you can’t be bothered to go the full hog with the whole flesh eating look, why not be a lazy zombie by just wearing glow-in-the-dark contact lenses and casual clothes. Maybe the behind the scenes video will help inspire your ripped white tee look, or maybe it’ll just help your procrastinate your biggest costume decision of the year for a few more minutes. Did I ever mention that Pete Wentz makes a cameo?

Panic! At The Disco – The Ballad Of Mona Lisa

Fancy going dark this year but not exactly scary? Well then P!ATD should be your muse. Why not go a little steam punk with a bowler hat, chains, clocks and cogs. Alternatively you could play the role of the murdering widow – very gothic. You could also go as the scruffy beaten up school kids (a welcome change from the ‘slutty school girl’ standard) or of course, one of the members of the miserable wedding party.

Rihanna – Disturbia

Get your black eyeliner on and start attaching those super long witchesque false nails because it’s time to bring disturbia to your street. There’s plenty of costumes here ranging from the sexy to the scary to the sexy and scary. If you’re really not shy and just happen to have bondage gear casually lying around your house, you could channel S&M but don’t expect for much free candy.

Katy Perry – ET (Feat. Kanye West)

You’ve embraced fancy dress so many times that you seem to have run out of fresh ideas, and now thanks to Facebook all your friends know what you wore last year. It’s a common problem but when was the last time you dressed as an alien? Even if it was recently, did you just wear deely poppers and a dash of green? Well it’s time to rethink your alien look as KP made hers look pretty stylish. It’s a lot of work for a last minute costume though but as long as you dress more interesting than Kanye does here, it’ll be worth it.

My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade

Sure, you were probably all over Black Parade jackets for both Halloween and casual wear back in 2006/2007 but have you thought of revisiting that MCR look? Or perhaps paying more attention to the background characters – what about the black and white lovers or the gas-mask wearing cheerleaders? Or how about looking back further into the MCR videography and trying out the gorgeously gothic ballet dancer? Or maybe you could go into the future and visit 2019 and bring your Killjoys persona to life.

Michael Jackson – Thriller

Finally here’s the ultimate fear-themed music video of all time – THRILLER. It needs no introduction and if you haven’t found your costume then just remember if you stick on a varsity jacket and a ridiculously unconvincing werewolf mask, you can scare anyone. Or at least that’s what this video tells us.
