Technology, My Best Girls and Living Far Away From Them (Or How Awesome Is the Interwebs)
This is my Katie. I call her Best Blue because A. she’s THE BEST and also MY BEST and B. when we lived together we realised she had the blue version things I had the red version of. Hence I am called, Best Red. It’s maths.
Best Blue is coming to visit this weekend from Australia with another of my best girls, S.Link AKA Slinky Linky. I can’t wait – I miss them both a lot. We’re going to DISNEYLAND. I know – it’s too much right?!
What I really want to talk about is how amazing the internet is for staying in touch with all of my Bests. Yes of course email, Facebook, Skype and Twitter, but there are SO MANY OTHERS. Check out my list below so that next time you’re away from your friends it doesn’t have to be too sad.
I play this with my very excellent pal Janey and my Sister-From-Another-Mother Toz. It’s essentially Scrabble with chat, a scoreboard and facebook integration. It’s a really fun way to be in contact with your friends even if you don’t have any big news to talk about.
2. WhatsApp
Best Blue and I use this sometimes. It’s a free text chat app that works exactly like your default text message program on your phone, but IT’S FREE!
I used to play co-op multiplayer games with one of my Best Boys Corky all the time. Not only amazing because anything to do with video games is amazing, but amazing for those times you miss that “hanging out” feeling. Get yourself a headset and mic.
4. Tumblr
Best Blue and I have a Tumblr and it’s so fun to jump on and see what updates she’s made. It’s the online equivalent of dropping notes in a locker or leaving cute Post-its on the fridge.
5. Turntable FM
Get your favorite peeps in a virtual club and take turns playing DJ. For fun to the power of AWESOME, give the session a theme (90’s R&B works pretty well) and surprise each other with favorites from yesteryear.
