Gerard Way Joins Blink-182 On Stage (And Other Surprise Live Guest Performers)

As Tom Delonge struggled on through his Honda Civic tour Sunday night show in Detroit without his voice due to a ‘cold’, Blink-182 called upon their support acts for a little helping hand. First show-opener Matt & Kim performed their own version of ‘Always’, then Gerard Way lent his voice for “First Date”. But who has stage-invaded My Chemical Romance recently? Well, I’m going to look at several degrees of seperation between these special appearances so you can find out.

Blink-182 Give Vocal Lead To Gerard Way…

Perhaps next time Adele is about to cancel another show due to vocal problems, she should consider the alternative solution: “Bring famous friend along to sing”. That plan of action clearly worked for Blink-182, even if Gerard’s input (almost) showed up the original vocalist.

Whose Band, My Chemical Romance Were Joined On Stage By Brian May…

Described as the best show of their lives, Gerard Way had the chance to fan-boy in front of a crowd of tens of thousands duirng their headline-slot at Reading Festival this year. Clearly a dream come true for not only the Queen-loving MCR boys but many who witnessed this spectacular one-off show (those at Reading’s sister festival Leeds were not as lucky due to the timing of Brian May’s next stage-invation). Just watch this one; it’s very special.

Who Flew Out To LA A Day Later To Perform With Lady Gaga…

Or should I say Joe Calderone? Or whatever? Although Mother Monster (or maybe I should say Father Monster) and My Chemical Romance sound nothing alike, they share a common love of Queen and of also the experience of casually playing with Brian May. However, My Chemical Romance’s faces of glee and their frantic festival crowd are far more interesting to watch than Gaga’s drag act. Although Dave Grohl’s facial expression makes up for her pretend ‘Am I Bovverred?’ face. (P.S Apologies for bad video quality – MTV and Gaga’s teams are very hot on copyright.)

Who Sang “Don’t Stop Believin'” With Elton John, Debbie Harry, Sting And Bruce Springsteen…

Gaga has joined many others on stage – among them are Semi-Prescious Weapons, a Lady Gaga drag queen impersonator and The Killer’s Brandon Flowers with The Pet Shop Boys. She’s even been given a shout out for dancing in the crowd at a Britney Spears concert. But I chose her performance at Sting’s Rainforest Fund for two reasons: #1 – It’s an eccletic mix of performers, #2 It leads me to be able to link my personal favourite next.

Who Surprised Glastonbury Attendees By Playing With The Gaslight Anthem

In a similar fanboy fashion to when My Chemical Romance met Brian May, The Gaslight Anthem played with their guitar hero at Glastonbury 2009. Much to the surprise of the crowd watching, festival headliner The Boss casually walked on to join The Gaslight Anthem (who were playing a much smaller tent earlier in the day). The on-stage collaboration also happened while TGA supported Bruce Springsteen at Hard Rock Calling the same weekend (lead-singer Brian Fallon reversed the role of stage invasion by walking on to sing ‘No Surrender’ during his idol’s main set).

What great stage-invasions or on-stage collaborations should I have included?
