Flashback Friday: 10 Movies That Make You Want to Go Back to School

It’s the heart of back to school season, which can only mean one thing: summer is coming to an end! No more hanging out and doing nothing all day, no more spending hours online playing Angry Birds or hanging out on Buzznet 24/7 (I know, the TRAGEDY!), and no more spending all day in your PJs watching movies – sad! What’s a student to do?! Getting some inspiration via back to school movies may help! As long as you don’t spend ALL day watching these movies, they just may very well be the remedy to fight the back to school blues.

To kick off the first Friday in September (aka Back to School Month!), here are the top 10 movies that make you want to go back to school:

1. Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)

Imagine having a rad dude like Spicoli in your class!

2. Sixteen Candles (1984)

Sixteen Candles makes me want to go back to school just to find a sweet, hot guy just like Jake Ryan!

3. The Breakfast Club (1985)

Normally Saturday detention would seem like the worst torture known to a student. But The Breakfast Club makes it look like a good time! How else will you be forced to connect with people seemingly different from you?!

4. Back to School (1986)

If having Rodney Dangerfield as a dad wasn’t fun enough, try having him as your classmate! With his smart mouth and his open wallet (remember that sweet “dorm room” he made for his son and his son’s best friend – the young Robert Downey Jr.?!), he’s definitely the big man on campus!

5. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986)

What’s school without a ditch day (or two!)? Ferris Bueller had ditching school down to a science! Seniors, take note for when your ditch day comes at the end of the year!

6. Clueless (1995)

Picking out school clothes would be so much more fun if we had Cher’s revolving closet! But alas, most of us don’t so we’ll just keep doing it the normal way. Still, at Bronson Alcott High, you never know who will be dropping by and enrolling!

7. Election (1999)

Would you want Reese Witherspoon as your student body president? So would we! It’s hard to believe she would lose that election!

8. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001)

We would give anything to go back to school if it meant attending Hogwarts with Harry Potter and the gang! How many would agree?

9. Mean Girls (2004)

Luckily my high school didn’t have a group like The Plastics. But how much more interesting would life be like if high school was like watching Mean Girls? Given that I’m not part of the drama, that is! Tina Fey as a teacher? Sweet!

10. Superbad (2007)

If you’ve been to a party like the one they threw in Superbad, you know you’re in for a crazy time! The best part about going back to school: hanging with folks AFTER school!
