Wondering How Bad the Spiderman Musical Really Is? Check This Out

Let’s face it, Spiderman: Turn off the Dark has been this trainwreck of a Broadway musical. The most expensive production in Broadway history, with music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge of U2 has seen special effect disasters, injured actors, the firing of Julie Traymor and the rewriting of her high concept Greek Myth inspired script that was, reportedly, completely incomprehensible.

The new version, written after Traymor’s firing, is reportedly better, but still bad. And last night on Letterman, actors from the show performed a number entitled “A Freak Like Me,” sung by the Green Goblin. And. Well. You kinda get the idea.

Honestly? I had interest in seeing this when it was the high concept mess out of the same sort of urge that leads to me doing things like watching Manos: The Hands of Fate. But now? I don’t know. It just seems run of the mill awful.

What do you guys think? Would you sit through the Spiderman musical?
