Who’s Performing the Amy Winehouse Tribute at the VMAs?

We heard rumors awhile ago that Christina Aguilera would be performing a salute to the late Amy Winehouse. However, it seems that was just a rumor, as MTV.com has announced the artist who will be performing the Winehouse tribute.

Legendary recording artist Tony Bennett will be introducing a video montage tribute to Winehouse, including exclusive footage of Bennett and Winehouse recording together. In a session this March, the pair recorded “Body and Soul,” a single which will be released on September 14th, 2011, which would have been Winehouse’s 28th birthday. The single and video will be released in support of the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

In a statement, Bennett said “It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse, and when you listen to the recording of ‘Body and Soul,’ it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known.”

Winehouse was found dead in her London home a month ago. A cause of death has not yet been determined, but recently released toxicology reports apparently claim there was no trace of illegal substances in her system.
