Holy Crap That Was My First Earthquake

There’s a lot of stuff I miss out on because I’m on the East Coast. I can’t make Geek Girl Con this year. San Diego Comic Con has, thus far, eluded me.

Oh, right, and we don’t get earthquakes.

EXCEPT FOR HOW WE JUST DID.

Not an actual picture of the earthquake. This is professional wrestler John Tenta.

A 5.9 magnitude quake just hit in Virginia, south of Washington DC. The Capitol Building has been evacuated for safety. However, the quake was felt in New York City, Philly, even here in Pittsburgh!

Which leads us to Today’s Fun Science Fact, courtesy of Twitter:

The Eastern US is comprised of more solid crust than out west, which dampens waves less and is why our quakes are felt further distances!

Wow. That’s pretty cool.

And now, having experienced my first earthquake, I will go out on a limb and say that it’s one thing the West Coast can feel free to keep to themselves.
