Amy Winehouse’s Father to Set Up Addiction Foundation in Amy’s Name

Amy Winehouse‘s father Mitch Winehouse plans to set up an addiction foundation in his daughter’s name to give help to those struggling with alcohol and drug addictions, reports Rolling Stone.

Speaking at his daughter’s funeral yesterday, Mitch announced his intentions to open up a foundation to provide support for people who are battling substance abuse. According to RadarOnline, it will also possibly include a rehab center. The foundation will also benefit children and horses, two things Amy was extremely passionate about.

Mitch was in New York with a relative when he found out about Amy’s death. In that moment, he decided to open a foundation in her memory.

“I was with my cousin Michael when I heard and straight away I said I wanted an Amy Winehouse Foundation, something to help the things she loved – children, horses, but also to help those struggling with substance abuse.”

At Amy’s service yesterday, her dad revealed that had “conquered” her drug addiction but but was still dealing with an alcohol addiction at the time of her death. According to Mitch, Amy had “completed three weeks of abstinence” and had told him that she intended to get sober, saying “Dad, I’ve had enough, I can’t stand the look on your and the family’s faces anymore.”

Do you think setting up an addiction foundation in Amy’s name is a good idea? Do you believe that Amy was really trying to get sober in her final days?
