Pixar Gives Us Their First Headlining Heroine in the Trailer for ‘Brave’

Don’t get me wrong, I love Pixar movies. But the movies have very much always focused on male characters in the lead. Even in ensemble pieces like Toy Story and The Incredibles, the story has mostly concentrated on the guys. But that’s all about to change.

In Brave, an adventurous princess breaks a bunch of rules, unleashes a curse and must face great dangers in order to undo it. It’s being touted as a dark fairy tale, more along the lines of the original Brothers Grimm stories than the Disney-fied versions we tended to grow up with.

The trailer is gorgeous…but you’d expect nothing less from Pixar, right?

Okay, so I think it kinda sucks a little that in order to get a Pixar leading lady we have to do it in a fairy tale and she HAS to be a princess, even if she’s an adventurous and unlikely one. But hey, I’m willing to wait to see the finished product to pass judgment.

But I’ll be waiting awhile. Brave won’t be out until August of next year.

Are you looking forward to it?
