Givenchy S/S 2012 Menswear: Hawaiian Country Club Gone Wild
The high point of this collection is the prints — they are jolly and eye-catching, as they depict bright tropical greenery and bird of paradise flowers. They’re like Riccardo Tisci’s twist on those Hawaiian flower print shirts worn by sunscreen-slathered tourists. Or, they could just be a happy summery version of his Fall 2011women’s wear prints, which were heavy on the plant-life as well. From afar, the prints look similar to those of Plato’s Atlantis, except majorly simplified — and after a while, your eyeballs get a little tired of seeing at them over and over again. But then, I looked at the details and realized that each print is slightly different in the way it is positioned and repeated.
I also love Tisci’s experimentation with curved hems. They’re tricky to spot on the suits and tailored shirts, so again guyszsz, the details is where it’s at.
